Objective: The Society of Academic Urologists (SAU) made no definitive recommendation on interview format for the 2025 urology match. The purpose of this study was to survey applicants for this cycle regarding preferences and perceptions related to interview format.
Methods: As part of a prospective assessment, surveys were administered to all applicants to our urology residency program for the 2025 cycle, both before interview and following the match process.
Solanum glaucophyllum is a toxic calcinogenic plant endemic to Central Argentina and is widely recognized as the primary cause of enzootic calcinosis in ruminants. Although the systemic calcification induced by this plant is well documented, its potential impact on reproductive performance remains underexplored. The present study reports the first evidence of calcinosis affecting the female reproductive organs of ruminants.

Identifying risk factors for ICU mortality at the time of admission can help optimize clinical decision making. However, the risk factors identified may differ, depending on the type of analysis used.

We aimed to develop generalisable optimised dosing recommendations for these antibiotics.
Methods: Prospective, multinational pharmacokinetic study including patients requiring various forms of RRT.
: In septic shock, microcirculatory dysfunction contributes to organ failure and mortality. While sidestream dark-field (SDF) imaging is the reference method for assessing microvascular perfusion, its complexity limits routine use. This study evaluates near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) with vascular occlusion testing (VOT) as a potential bedside tool for monitoring microcirculatory changes following fluid resuscitation.

By combining these predictions, PADS enables clinically meaningful stratification of patient trajectories, supporting bedside decision-making and the planning of critical care resources such as nursing allocation and surgical scheduling. PADS integrates routinely collected clinical data: SOFA variables, age, gender, admission type, and comorbidities.

This study investigated the lung microbiome, inflammatory response, and metabolism in patients undergoing IMV to identify factors that may predispose them to developing VAP.
Objectives: To investigate how changes in lung microbiome composition, inflammatory response, and metabolic profiles may predispose patients undergoing IMV to develop VAP.
During the influenza A(H1N1) and COVID-19 pandemics, empirical antibiotic treatment (EAT) was widely administered to critically ill patients despite low rates of confirmed bacterial co-infection (COI). The clinical benefit of this practice remains uncertain and may contradict antimicrobial stewardship principles. To evaluate whether EAT at ICU admission reduces ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) incidence or ICU mortality in critically ill patients with pandemic viral pneumonia, stratified by presence of COI.

Purpose: With multi-institutional collaboration, the purpose of this study was to analyze geographical differences of renal cell carcinoma with tumor thrombus between patients in North America, Central/South America, and South Korea.
Materials And Methods: Patients with renal cell carcinoma and a tumor thrombus who underwent nephrectomy plus thrombectomy were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were from North America, Central/South America, and South Korea.

The gold standard treatment for renal cell carcinoma with a tumor thrombus (RCC-TT) is radical nephrectomy with tumor thrombectomy (RN-TT). Operative approaches to this can be done open (ORN-TT), laparoscopic (LRN-TT), or robotic (RRN-TT). The purpose of this study was to compare overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and metastasis-free survival (MFS) between open, laparoscopic, and robotic approaches to RN-TT using the Intercontinental Collaboration on Renal Cell Carcinoma (ICORCC) database.

Early diagnosis of IAC remains a challenge for clinicians despite new biomarkers. Early and appropriate antifungal treatment, which is associated with better clinical outcomes, is negatively affected by the increased isolation of non-albicans strains that are resistant to the commonly used azoles and echinocandins.

Background: High mortality rates among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) during the COVID-19 pandemic highlight the need for tailored clinical management strategies.
Study Design And Methods: Epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory data were collected in REDCap for 6,512 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across 55 Spanish ICUs. Patients were stratified into three groups: those with COPD, those with other chronic respiratory diseases (CRD), and those without respiratory comorbidities (No CRD).

Introduction: There is minimal research on the types of complications patients experience after radical cystectomy (RC). Moreover, the impact of these complications is not well qualified. The primary purpose of this study is to qualify complications after RC and quantify rates of emergency department (ED) utilisation and readmissions to the hospital.

Despite advancements in antimicrobial therapies and supportive care, sCAP remains a significant threat, particularly for those needing invasive mechanical ventilation or vasopressor support. Recent progress in diagnostics, therapeutics and management strategies offers hope for improved outcomes.

There is a significant knowledge gap regarding the acidification of freshwater ecosystems and its effects on biological systems. The bocachico (Prochilodus magdalenae), an endemic and migratory species vital to Colombia's inland fisheries, is currently classified as vulnerable. This study evaluated the impact of different pH levels (6.

The study utilized data from the European Network for ICU-related Respiratory Infections, including 1,060 adult ICU patients diagnosed with nLRTI. Descriptive statistics were used to compare baseline characteristics and pathogen distribution between groups.

The rising demand for sustainable packaging and urgent need for circular strategies in the agri-food sector motivate exploring biopolymer packaging from agri-food by-products. This study presents an efficient method for utilizing avocado pruning waste (APW) by extracting hemicelluloses for polyvinyl-alcohol (PVA)-based food packaging films. Autohydrolysis and tangential-flow diafiltration produced hemicellulose fractions with varying molecular weights: >50, 50-8, 8-1, and 1 kDa.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFNonlinear metasurfaces offer the ability to realize optical nonlinear devices with unparalleled properties compared to nonlinear crystals, due to the interplay between photonic resonances and materials properties. The complicated interdependency between efficiency and emission directionality of the nonlinear optical signal on the existence, localization, and lifetimes of photonic resonances, as well as on the nonlinear susceptibility, makes it extremely difficult to design optimal metasurfaces using conventional materials and geometries. Inverse design using topology optimization is a powerful design tool for photonic structures, but traditional approaches developed for linear photonics are not suitable for such high dimensional nonlinear problems.
