Introduction: Horner syndrome, a rare complication of pediatric adenotonsillectomy, results from oculosympathetic pathway disruption near the vulnerable superior cervical ganglion. Only 15 cases are documented, highlighting its exceptional rarity but significant clinical relevance.

Case Presentation: A 7-year-old girl underwent routine adenotonsillectomy for recurrent tonsillitis and sleep-disordered breathing, utilizing cold steel dissection and bipolar cautery for hemostasis.

Giant recurrent auricular keloids, particularly those complicated by donor-site involvement, present significant therapeutic challenges due to aggressive fibroblast biology and high recurrence rates. We report a complex case of a 15-year-old female who developed a massive recurrent auricular keloid with associated abdominal donor-site keloid following otoplasty and subsequent skin grafting. Initial otoplasty at age 10 was complicated by keloid formation, requiring excision and abdominal full-thickness grafting.

Penetrating foreign bodies in the pediatric sphenoid sinus are exceptionally rare and pose significant diagnostic and surgical challenges due to the sinus's proximity to critical neurovascular structures. We present the case of an 11 year-old boy who sustained a penetrating injury from a 7 mm bullet that entered through the floor of the frontal sinus, traversed the ethmoid sinus, and lodged in the right sphenoid sinus near the carotid canal and optic nerve. Initial assessment revealed hemodynamic stability and no active bleeding or neurological deficits.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is an uncommon mesenchymal neoplasm rarely encountered in the pediatric larynx, with the subglottis representing an atypical subsite. This report details a diagnostically instructive case of a 10-year-old girl presenting with 18 months of progressive dyspnea and exertional stridor, notably without hoarseness. Fibroendoscopic laryngoscopy identified a well-circumscribed right subglottic mass, confirmed on computed tomography scan to cause partial airway narrowing.

Subcutaneous emphysema following nasal surgery is a rare yet potentially severe complication. This case report describes a 40-year-old woman who developed extensive subcutaneous emphysema involving the face, neck, mediastinum, and thorax after uneventful turbinate cauterization and nostril reduction. The patient, with a history of prior septoplasty and rhinoplasty, presented with nasal obstruction and underwent the procedure under general anesthesia.

Objectives: This review consolidates all reported cases of facial nerve paralysis (FNP) complicating keratosis obturans (KO), a rare disorder characterized by keratin accumulation in the external auditory canal. The study aims to analyze clinical patterns, diagnostic findings, management outcomes, and prognostic factors to enhance understanding and guide evidence-based management of this underrecognized complication.

Methods: A comprehensive literature search of PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar (inception-December 2024) identified English-language case reports and observational studies linking KO to FNP.

Auricular mucormycosis is an exceptionally rare and aggressive fungal infection primarily affecting immunocompromised individuals, particularly those with poorly controlled diabetes. This report presents the case of a 54-year-old diabetic woman with isolated auricular mucormycosis and facial nerve palsy. The patient developed right auricular edema, necrosis, and severe pain, progressing over 10 days, with no history of trauma.

Paragangliomas are rare neuroendocrine tumors originating from the paraganglia. They are mostly benign, slow-growing, and non-secretory. This report describes a rare case of a catecholamine-secreting paraganglioma located in the pterygopalatine fossa.

Angiofibrolipomas are rare, benign soft tissue tumors composed of mature fat cells, blood vessels, and fibrous connective tissue. Typically occurring in subcutaneous locations, this case report presents a unique instance of an angiofibrolipoma arising in the pharynx. According to our review of the literature, it is the second reported case in the pharynx and the sixth in the head and neck region.

Background: The Ear Outcome Survey-16 (EOS-16) has been validated according to the health-related quality of life (HRQol) survey guidelines. It has important compatible aspects in evaluating patients with chronic otitis media (COM) suitable for consultation. This study aimed to develop and standardize the Arabic version of the EOS-16 to be used by clinicians in the Arab world while maintaining the conceptual equivalence.

Canalicular adenoma (CA) is a rare benign tumor of the salivary glands, predominantly affecting elderly females, with a strong predilection for the upper lip. While CA commonly arises in the minor salivary glands, its occurrence in the parotid gland is exceptionally rare. In this report, we present a unique case of CA in the parotid gland, adding to the scant literature with only 8 documented instances.

Article Synopsis
  • Laryngocele is a rare condition characterized by an abnormal air-filled dilation in the laryngeal ventricle, mostly occurring unilaterally, with bilateral cases being highly uncommon.
  • The article details a case of a 57-year-old male with respiratory distress from bilateral laryngoceles, confirmed through CT imaging, leading to a tracheostomy and successful surgical excision.
  • A literature review shows that laryngoceles are often asymptomatic and typically diagnosed around age 50, highlighting the need for timely medical intervention and further research on this condition.

A prospective cohort study investigated the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) infusion for refractory thin endometrium in 38 infertile patients. Patients showed significant improvement in endometrial thickness post-PRP injection, leading to successful implantation and pregnancy. The study revealed a negative correlation between antimullerian hormone (AMH) levels and the need for PRP interventions, suggesting higher ovarian reserve may reduce the necessity for repeated treatments.

Health systems are recognised as playing a potentially important role in many risk management strategies; however, there is strong evidence that health systems themselves have been the victims of unanticipated risks and have lost their functionality in providing reliable services. Existing risk identification and assessment tools in the health sector, particularly in the blood supply chain, address and evaluate risks without taking into account their interdependence and a holistic perspective. As a result, the aim of this paper is to develop a new systemic framework based on a semi-quantitative risk assessment approach to measure supply chain risks, which will be implemented through a case study on the Iranian BSC.

A participatory ergonomics model was designed for improving working conditions, quality, and productivity in a medium-sized manufacturing enterprise by making use of a Supportive Expert Team (SET). In order to implement the model, a team-based structure consisting of a Steering Committee (SC) and 2 Action Groups (AGs) was designed and a 5-phase methodology followed. To validate the model, a similar factory was selected as control.
