Oxeiptosis, discovered in 2018, is a ROS-triggered, caspase-independent cell death pathway studied so far only in mammals. Our study provides the first validation of oxeiptosis in an aquatic organism, expanding the understanding of oxidative stress-mediated cell death pathways in fish. Channa punctatus were exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of Polyvinyl chloride microplastics (PVC-MPs) (0.

Copper (Cu) and polyvinyl chloride microplastics (PVC-MPs), each known for their toxic effects, combine to create a hazardous synergy, posing a dual threat to aquatic ecosystems. Our study investigates the chronic (60-day) neurotoxic impacts of environmentally relevant concentrations of Cu (0.85 mg/L) and PVC-MPs (0.

Triclosan (TCS), a widely used antimicrobial, has emerged as a concerning aquatic pollutant, especially post-COVID-19 due to increased disinfectant use. The study aimed to investigate the toxic impacts of TCS on Labeo rohita, revealing a 96-h LC of 0.742 mg/L.

From essential to harmful, excess copper compromises aquatic vitality. Curcumin, a potent antioxidant bioactive, counteracts heavy metal toxicity. This study examines its role in modulating the NRF2-KEAP1 pathway to boost antioxidant defenses and mitigate apoptosis in kidneys of Channa punctatus exposed to environmentally relevant Copper concentrations (ERCC).

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the water-soluble fraction of crude oil (WSFO) on Indian carp () with and without treatment with zinc oxide nanoparticles (Nano-ZnO). A total of 225 fish were randomly assigned to five groups in triplicate for 21 days. Group I served as the control group.

The development of the plastics industry worldwide has led to an increase in the rate of plastic waste and chemical additives such as microplastics (MPs) and diphenyl phthalate (DPP) in the environment. The penetration of these pollutants into aquatic ecosystems has also raised concerns about their toxic effects, individually and in combination. The present study investigated the individual and combined toxicity of MPs and DPP on the health of male goldfish.

Cadmium pollution is a major environmental issue threatening aquatic ecosystems and the health of aquatic organisms. Our study examines cadmium toxicity at different levels, highlighting pyroptotic cell death in the freshwater fish Channa punctatus (spotted snakehead). For this purpose, 90 well-acclimatized fish were categorized into three groups: one control and two treatment groups, i.

Water bodies are highly pollution-prone areas in which mercury (Hg) is considered as a major menace to aquatic organisms. However, the information about the toxicity of mercuric chloride (HgCl) in a vital organ such as the liver of fish is still inadequate. This study aimed to assess the impact of mercuric chloride (HgCl) exposure on the liver of Channa punctata fish over 15, 30, and 45 days, at two different concentrations (0.

The present study explores growth potential of two medicinal herbs, Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha or 'A') and Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari or 'S') after their dietary inclusion in fish, Channa punctatus (13.5 ± 2 g; 11.5 ± 1 cm).

Copper (Cu) is an essential and important trace element for some significant life processes for most organisms. However, an excessive amount of Cu can be highly toxic. The present study was conducted to elucidate the oxidative stress-induced alteration in transcriptional level of autophagy-related genes in the liver and kidney tissue of fish Channa punctatus after treatment with three different sublethal concentrations of CuSO for 28 days.

Ameliorative potential of curcumin against Cr-induced eco-toxicological manifestations was assessed in liver of exposed Channa punctatus (Actinopterygii) in six groups for 45 d; Group I as control. Group II with 3 mg/L of curcumin; group III with 7.89 mg/L of Cr.

In this study, the pattern of metals concentration in water, sediment, plants, and three edible fish species (Channa striata, Labeo rohita, and Catla catla) of different trophic levels, captured from Jajmau (Kanpur), an important fishery area of river Ganga in Uttar Pradesh, India was examined. The heavy metals, Ni, Pb, Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd, Cr, and Co, were estimated in the liver, kidney, muscles, and gill tissues of abovesaid species of fish. The highest metal concentration was reported in the bottom feeder fish as compared with the column and surface feeders.
