The band structure of ultrathin Pd(111) thin films grown on the CrO(0001) surface was studied by angular-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) combined with first-principles calculations. The CrO(0001) interface and the expanded Pd lattice constant appears to significantly affect the occupied band structure of an ultrathin palladium film. A characteristic band splitting is seen in the experimental occupied electronic structure, forming a hexagonal pattern approximately half-way from the Γ" point to the surface Brillouin zone boundary.

Indocyanine green (ICG) is a well-established near-infrared dye which has been used clinically for several decades. Recently, it has been utilised for fluorescence-guided surgery in a range of solid cancer types, including sarcoma, with the aim of reducing the positive margin rate. The increased uptake and retention of ICG within tumours, compared with normal tissue, gives surgeons a visual reference to aid resection when viewed through a near-infrared camera.

The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway-also known as the RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK pathway-is a critical signalling cascade involved in regulating cell growth, proliferation, and survival. First discovered in the early 1980s, the pathway's extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) subfamily was identified in the 1990s. The ERK family includes several isoforms-ERK1, ERK2, ERK3, ERK5, and ERK6-with ERK1 (MAPK3) and ERK2 (MAPK1) being the most well-characterised and playing central roles in MAPK signalling.
