Introduction: As the world population is rapidly becoming older, the incidence of traumatic brain injury (TBI) is increasing among older adults with vast implications for brain health of older adults in Europe. Due to differences from younger patients, there are areas of uncertainty in the assessment, diagnosis and management of TBI in older adults.

Research Question: To reach a consensus among experts on statements regarding the definition of old age, assessment, diagnosis and management of traumatic brain injury in older adults.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ), which is expressed in a variety of malignancies, governs biological functions through transcriptional programs. Defining the molecular mechanisms governing the selection of canonical versus non-canonical PPARγ binding sequences may provide the opportunity to design regulators with distinct functions and side effects. Acetylation at K268/293 in mouse Pparγ2 participates in the regulation of adipose tissue differentiation, and the conserved lysine residues (K154/155) in mouse Pparγ1 governs lipogenesis in breast cancer cells.

Background: Orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR) is a common adverse effect of orthodontic treatments. Radiographs are routinely used to diagnose OIIRR; however, 3-dimensional cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) studies have recently been conducted to assess hard tissue loss more accurately. There is controversial evidence of differences between aligners and fixed appliances in terms of OIIRR.

The association between aluminum exposure and obesity remains uncertain. This study investigated whether aluminum exposure (dietary, serum, and urinary) is linked to obesity and whether dietary antioxidant capacity moderates this relationship. A total of 54 adult women (26 obese, 28 normal weight) were recruited from a private weight loss clinic in Türkiye.

Background: Administering intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) on direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) remains a clinical challenge. Current guidelines restrict IVT within 48 h of DOAC intake unless anticoagulant activity can be confidently excluded. However, reliable medication histories are often unavailable, and conventional coagulation tests inadequately detect DOAC activity.

Department of Genetics and Genomics Sciences, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, NY, USA; Department of Medical Genetics, University of Pecs Medical School, Pecs, Hungary. Electronic address:

GMPPA-Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation (CDG) is an ultra-rare autosomal recessive CDG caused by pathogenic variants in GMPPA that affects the N-linked glycosylation pathway. Affected individuals present with three major symptoms: achalasia, alacrima, and impaired intellectual development during infancy. Current management of GMPPA-CDG is targeted to address patients' symptoms.

Amateur and professional athletes often consume protein supplements to accelerate muscle gain; however, it has been suggested that these products not only are associated with risks when consumed excessively. Several recent reports have indicated that certain products are contaminated with heavy metals. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate protein powders in Hungary for heavy metal contamination.

This study investigates the impact of food price changes on food security and diet quality in Ethiopia using recent Living Standard Measurement Surveys. Household-level food security and diet quality were assessed using the Household Diet Diversity Score, Food Insecurity Experience Scale, and proportion of food consumption expenditure. Employing a random effects panel regression and Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition, this study examined the differential effects of price changes across household types, guided by the Harvard gender analysis framework.

Relationship between self-rated health, sense of coherence and physical activity in a survey of secondary school students: A correlational study.

Sci Rep

July 2025

Faculty of Health Sciences, Institute of Physiotherapy and Sport Sciences, Department of Sport Science, University of Pécs, Pécs, Hungary.

The aim of the present research was to assess the physical activity of secondary school students and to understand its effect on subjective general health, vitality and mental health. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted among adolescents aged 15-19 (n = 448) years attending a full-time secondary school. The paper-based questionnaire included self-reported questions on physical activity in addition to socio-demographic variables, while the standardised instrument measured dimensions of subjective health (Health Thermometer - EuroQol scale, EQ VAS, Health Survey Short Form SF-36 Questionnaire) and Sense of Coherence (SOC 13).

Comparative efficacy of patient-specific and stock implants in temporomandibular joint replacement: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Int J Oral Maxillofac Surg

July 2025

Centre for Translational Medicine, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary; Department of Oro-Maxillofacial Surgery and Stomatology, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary. Electronic address:

Evidence for the superiority of patient-specific implants (PSI) over stock implants in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) replacement remains inconclusive. The objective of this study was to provide guidance for clinical decisions by evaluating whether PSI offer advantages over stock systems in rehabilitation of the TMJ. A systematic search was performed in three databases to identify studies reporting mouth opening, pain, and diet outcomes for PSI and/or stock TMJ implants.

Mothers of children with intellectual disabilities are particularly vulnerable to mental distress due to demanding and exhausting caregiving. However, in the Arab world, they are seldom screened for depression because of limited diagnostic resources. Addressing the urgent need for brief and reliable screening tools, this study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2) among 85 Saudi mothers.

The nutritional content and quality of garlic, a crop widely consumed, must be preserved after harvesting by overcoming several challenges. The necessity of this study arises from the growing demand for effective postharvest management solutions that can extend shelf life, maintain the nutritional integrity of garlic and enhance consumer satisfaction. This study explores the application of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) to predict the effects of storage environments and packaging materials on garlic's physicochemical properties, enzymatic activities, phytochemical content, and antioxidant characteristics.

Video-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (V-CPR) can improve the quality of bystander-performed CPR; however, its applicability has not been explored in situations where the lay responder is alone with the victim. This pilot study aimed to assess the feasibility of V-CPR in such scenarios. A randomized controlled crossover simulation study was conducted with 10 lay responders in two settings: a residential living room and a yard.

Aims: Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus and frequently progresses to heart failure. Although the deubiquitinase OTUB1 has demonstrated protective effects in DCM, the upstream regulatory mechanisms governing its expression and their influence on mitochondrial function remain unclear.

Methods: We used a short-term insulinopenic diabetic mouse model supplemented with exogenous protein C (PC) to investigate the role of activated protein C (aPC) in regulating OTUB1 during early-stage DCM.

Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Hotchkiss Brain Institute, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are key regulators of gene expression, shaping neuroplasticity, stress responses, and neuromodulation. In the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis, inhibition of the miRNA-processing enzyme Dicer with Poly-l-Lysine (PLL) has been shown to impair long-term memory (LTM) formation, yet the molecular pathways affected remain unclear. Here, we examined PLL injection's transcriptional and cellular/neurochemical effects in untrained (i.
