Background: Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) refers to the active collaboration of patients and the public in health and social care research decision-making, enhancing research success, cost-effectiveness, and impact. Children, young people, and their families bring unique lived experiences to PPI in research, relating to others with similar experiences, while factors like age, cognitive maturation, and developmental stage create differences between researchers and patients or the public. Collaboration with children, young people, and their families should be guided by specific project context and a strong evidence base.

Introduction: Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignancy with poor prognosis, limited treatment options, and high recurrence rates. Surgery and mitotane-based chemotherapy remain the standard of care, and new treatment strategies are needed. Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) offer promise as theranostic agents due to their modifiability for selective uptake and imaging.

Iron-nitrogen-carbon (Fe-N-C) catalysts are considered the most active platinum-free alternative for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), yet the generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) from general mechanistic pathway rapidly impair the ORR activity and stability of Fe-N-C. Herein, we establish and report an ORR pathway-switching strategy to circumvent ROS generation and fundamentally improve the activity and stability of Fe-N-C via DFT guided catalyst design. The constructed Fe-V atomic pair catalyst (FeV-NC) with NFe-N-VN configuration enables side-on adsorption of O and subsequent direct-breaking of the O═O bond to form O*, thereby avoiding the formation of ROS radicals.

Osteoporosis is a major bone disease, affecting more than 200 million people globally. Physical exercise is a powerful non-pharmaceutical fracture prevention strategy for people with osteoporosis or those at risk of falls. However, the participation in and adherence to an exercise regimen by older adults is often low due to a lack of motivation, a fear of falling, safety and/or cost.

Oxidative damage can introduce G>T mutations upon DNA replication. When this damage occurs , sequenced DNA exhibits strand asymmetry, whereby sequence alignment yields G>T mismatches without corresponding C>A mismatches on the complementary strand at a given locus. Strand asymmetry is used to identify potential sequencing artefacts in somatic variant calls in cancer sequencing projects.

Flowering is a critical growth stage of quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.), with a strong influence on growth and grain yield. To understand factors affecting such flowering stage effects, we measure the differential effects of genotype (G), environmental stress (E), and genotype by environment interaction (G × E) on quinoa growth and yield-related traits during the flowering stage.

The passive material properties of skeletal muscle are key to proper force transmission, and changes to muscle microstructure can have deleterious effects on whole tissue function. However, to the best of the authors' knowledge, it is not currently possible to predict the passive material properties of skeletal muscle with microstructural measurements such as titin isoform type and/or extracellular matrix collagen content, type, or organization. The goals of this work were to 1) develop an experimental dataset at the tissue length scale of passive skeletal muscle under multiaxial loading conditions, 2) develop a biphasic microstructural model of skeletal muscle, and 3) calibrate, validate, and implement such a model.

Background: Whether potent P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy without aspirin initiated shortly after successful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is effective and safe for patients with acute coronary syndromes is unclear.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter, open-label, randomized trial in Brazil involving patients with acute coronary syndromes who had undergone successful PCI. Patients were assigned in a 1:1 ratio within the first 4 days of hospitalization to stop treatment with aspirin and receive potent P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy (ticagrelor or prasugrel) or to receive dual antiplatelet therapy (aspirin and a potent P2Y12 inhibitor) for 12 months.

The agriculture sector is under considerable pressure to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The use of grass from farmland as a feedstock for anaerobic digestion (AD) can contribute to the development of biomethane as a renewable energy. Digestate, a by-product of AD, can be recycled as a source of N fertilizer on grassland, but little is known about its nitrous oxide (NO) emissions (a potent greenhouse gas) following land-spreading.
