Idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease (iMCD) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by systemic inflammation and lymphadenopathy. Two major clinical subtypes, idiopathic plasmacytic lymphadenopathy (iMCD-IPL) and iMCD with thrombocytopenia, anasarca, fever, renal dysfunction/reticulin fibrosis, and organomegaly (iMCD-TAFRO), exhibit distinct pathophysiologic mechanisms. While interleukin-6 (IL-6) is known to be elevated in iMCD, the differences in IL-6 production sources between subtypes remain unclear.

This work investigated the effect of zinc oxide nanoparticles functionalized with curcumin (ZnO+CUR) supplementation during the maturation (IVM) of bovine oocytes on the embryo production and the cellular antioxidant response. A total of 1,625 cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) were cultured in the maturation medium in the absence (0 µM - control) or presence of different concentrations of ZnO+CUR (3 µM, 6 µM or 12 µM). A visible-light-catalyzed three-component cyclization reaction of 2-vinylarylamines with CFSONa and arylaldehydes is developed to build a series of 3-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)-3-indoles. This protocol features mild reaction conditions using an 18 W blue LED as the light source at room temperature. The desired 3-indole products can be successfully transformed into valuable tetrahydroindole scaffolds through either reduction or cross-coupling reactions.

A 71-year-old black male with a history of hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, history of bladder cancer status-post resection now in remission, history of multiple transient ischemic attacks, and coronary artery disease (CAD) presented with non-exertional substernal chest pain radiating to the left arm, accompanied by shortness of breath and nausea. Initial evaluation revealed elevated troponins and nonspecific electrocardiogram changes, consistent with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction. Coronary angiography demonstrated severe multivessel disease, including critical left main stenosis.

Surface photocatalysis holds significant promise for converting solar energy into chemical fuels and addressing environmental challenges. While calculations provide critical insights into the thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of catalytic reactions, applying these methods to surface photocatalysis remains challenging.
