Mixed-mating strategies can maximize the benefits and limit the costs of both self-fertilization and outcrossing. In addition to ecological conditions and population dynamics, the economics of mixed mating are determined by individual self-compatibility, i.e.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to understand diabetes self-management practices among African American individuals living with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in rural communities.
Methods: This qualitative descriptive study, undergirded by the theory of integration, purposively sampled African Americans (N = 34) diagnosed with T2D living in rural communities. Thematic analysis employed both a priori and inductive coding to identify salient themes.

Objective: Various studies have examined rates of remission in ADHD with mixed results.
Method: Survival curve analyses were performed on a community-based sample.
Results: The results of the current study appear to support the contemporary literature that rates of remission in ADHD are lower than have been found in many earlier studies.

Diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) can be a very valuable service for many patients with diabetes. Unfortunately, despite its expected benefits, many patients do not receive DSMES through a quality, structured program. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to determine if integrating a diabetes education program utilizing the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES)7 Self-Care Behaviors into diabetes care in a primary care clinic could improve glycemic control and body mass index (BMI).

Hepatic adenomas (HAs) are rare but benign neoplasms of the liver which predominantly present as solitary lesions in women of reproductive age. The incidence of HAs has increased dramatically since the introduction of oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) along with the rising incidence of obesity. Discontinuation of OCPs and lifestyle modifications, including weight loss regimens, are considered as conservative treatment options for HAs.

Objective: We examine what variables were associated with increased medication non-adherence for adolescents and young adults with ADHD.
Method: These variables included sociodemographic characteristics such as gender, age, race, and ethnicity but also included self-reported reasons for medication non-adherence as well as the type of and degree of self-reported side effects or adverse events. Results: The following variables were statistically significant predictors of medication non-adherence: being White; forgetting to take the medication; not liking the feeling; and desiring a tolerance break from the medication.

Rural-dwelling individuals with dementia and their caregivers face unique challenges compared to urban-dwelling peers. Barriers to accessing services and supports are common, and individual resources and informal networks available to support rural families can be difficult to track for providers and healthcare systems outside of the local community. This study uses qualitative data from rural-dwelling dyads, individuals with dementia ( = 12) and informal caregivers ( = 18), to demonstrate how rural patients' daily life needs can be summarized through life-space map visualizations.

The purpose of this study was to determine what side effects were most associated with medication nonadherence as reported by adolescents and young adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). A combination of multiple linear regression and chi-square automatic interaction detection techniques were utilized in analyzing the survey data responses of 157 adolescents and young adults with ADHD. The mean number of side effects reported was = 10.

Objective: We aimed to quantify the female athlete composition of the research data informing the most influential consensus and position statements in treating sports-related concussions.
Design: We identified the most influential concussion consensus and position statements through citation and documented clinician use; then, we analysed the percentage of male and female athletes from each statement's cited research.
Data Sources: We searched PubMed on 26 August 2021 with no date restrictions for English language studies using the terms 'concussion position statement' and 'concussion consensus statement.

Depression and personality traits are independent predictors of dementia or cognitive impairment. Despite the well-established relationship between these two psychosocial factors and dementia, no research has been documented on how personality traits can influence dementia in older adults exhibiting depressive symptoms. This study explores the influence of personality traits on the association between change in depression and dementia in old age.

Objective: This study aims for a greater understanding of how older adults (age 65 and older) in Jackson County, Florida, are prepared for and cope with the effects of a natural disaster.
Methods: A multidisciplinary, international research team developed a survey examining: (1) resources available to individuals aged 65+ in rural communities for preparing for a disaster; (2) challenges they face when experiencing a disaster; and (3) their physical, social, emotional, and financial needs when it strikes. The survey was administered with older adults (65+) in Jackson County, Florida, following Hurricane Michael in 2018.

Marchiafava-Bignami disease (MBD) is a rare, toxic demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system associated with chronic alcoholism and malnutrition. The clinical presentation is varied and non-specific, including symptoms of acute dementia, impaired consciousness, dysarthria, hemiparesis, pyramidal tract signs, seizure activity, ataxia and signs of interhemispheric disconnection. The differential diagnosis of MBD may include Wernicke's encephalopathy, multiple sclerosis, encephalitis, infectious or paraneoplastic leucoencephalopathy, infarction, Alzheimer's disease, multi-infarct dementia and frontotemporal lobar degeneration (Pick) disease.

Osteointegration is dependent on a variety of biomechanical and biochemical factors. One factor is the wettability of an implant surface that is directly influenced by its surface energy. This investigation used the Zisman plot to determine critical surface tension as one representative measurement of surface energy.
