Objectives: Night shift work has been classified as probably carcinogenic to humans, possibly related to suppression of melatonin secretion. Although experimental studies suggest that melatonin inhibits intestinal tumor proliferation, epidemiological evidence for a relationship between night shift work and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk is lacking.
Methods: We prospectively examined the association between night shift work and CRC in the Nightingale Study.

Background And Study Aims: Active surveillance has been proposed for patients with esophageal cancer and a clinical complete response after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT). This strategy involves repeated esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) with bite-on-bite biopsies and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) with fine-needle aspiration (FNA) to detect tumor regrowth or residual disease. The aim of this study was to assess safety of endoscopic procedures during active surveillance.

Introduction: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) targeted precision surgery is becoming increasingly popular. However, the relatively low levels of PSMA-receptor expression and background signal can hinder in vivo lesion detection and margin evaluation. Back-table imaging (ex vivo) potentially provides a means to confirm surgical accuracy.

In patients treated with salvage lymph node dissection (sLND) for nodal recurrence of prostate cancer, whether radioguided surgery (RGS) might improve oncologic outcomes as compared with template sLND remains unknown. This study included 259 patients who experienced a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) rise and nodal-only recurrence after radical prostatectomy and underwent pelvic sLND at 11 tertiary referral centers between 2012 and 2022. Lymph node recurrence was documented by prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography scans.

Introduction: Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) represent a significant cause of postoperative morbidity and even mortality. However, there is a lack of consensus regarding this composite endpoint, the definition of the individual components, classification and optimal outcome measures. This study aims to refine the PPCs composite framework by evaluating its construct validity, assessing the necessity and risks of a composite measure and exploring the feasibility of differentiating severity categories.

Background: High-grade vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) is the precursor of vulvar cancer and is divided into human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) and HPV-independent VIN, often clinically referred to as differentiated VIN (dVIN) and associated with vulvar dermatoses, usually lichen sclerosus. Surgical treatment of high-grade VIN often leads to genital deformity, reduced quality of life and reduced sexual function, which has a major impact on quality of life. To optimize clinical management, accurate biomarkers providing information on the cancer risk of high-grade VIN are needed.
