Although uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign uterine tumors in women, there is no effective therapy that can also preserve the uterus and maintain fertility. The work aimed to work was to discover a potential natural agent that has pharmacological activities on uterine leiomyomas with fewer adverse effects. We chose Rhus verniciflua Stokes (RVS) as a candidate after primary cytotoxicity testing, and analyzed the RVS components that showed pharmacological activity.

Non-thermal atmospheric pressure (NAP) plasma has demonstrated potential in biomedical applications, such as cancer treatment, bactericidal sterilization, and cell growth promotion or inhibition. In this study, for the first time, we demonstrated on-off switching of cell cycle progression and regulated melanogenesis in normal human skin melanocytes by NAP plasma-activated medium (PAM). The melanocytes were exposed to NAP plasma at durations varying from 0 to 20 min, and the effects of PAM on cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, and melanogenesis were investigated.

Because the cell membrane is an important regulator of cell function, its morphological changes are important markers of cell apoptosis. These changes can differ for each cell type, and depend on the treatment conditions, including the drug, doses, and treatment time. To quantify morphological changes, HeLa and Ishikawa cells were investigated with atomic force microscopy.

Background: Single-port laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy (S-LAVH) uses only one transumbilical incision site and has better cosmetic result than conventional multiport LAVH. This study aimed to evaluate our initial experience with S-LAVH compared with the more conventional three-port LAVH in women with benign uterine diseases.
Methods: Between April 2009 and April 2010, S-LAVH was attempted on 183 patients with benign uterine diseases through a transumbilical incision for a 12-mm trocar, and conventional LAVH was performed on 275 patients by the same surgeon.

To evaluate the efficacy of various treatments for pelvic congestion syndrome in patients with different stress levels, we analyzed one hundred six patients with pelvic congestion syndrome, confirmed with laparoscopy and venography, who did not respond to medication after 4-6 months medication. They were divided into three groups: (embolotherapy; hysterectomy with bilateral oophorectomy and hormone replacement therapy; and hysterectomy with unilateral oophorectomy). The visual analog scale was used to measure degree of pain; stress level data were scored with the revised social readjustment rating scale.
