The scale-down of reaction processes by microreactors enables significant benefits over the applications of conventional reactors due to the intensification of reaction which become an emerging prospect in the environmental engineering. In the last decades, there has been a rapid pollution increase connected with various industries, in particular due to the dye and textile industries, which generate huge amounts of wastewater containing organic dyes. The abatement of dyes in wastewater using microreactors therefore has great potential.

Aerosol particles in the PM fraction considerably influence the climate-related effects of aerosols and impact human health despite representing very variable fractions of the total aerosol mass concentration. Aerosol optical measurement techniques (aerosol light scattering) may not be sufficiently effective for detecting all particles in the PM fraction, particularly regarding number concentration. The present study investigates temporal variations of aerosol light scattering properties and particle number concentration (PNC) at different size modes in the PM fraction at the atmospheric site ATOLL (The Atmospheric Observations in Lille), Northern France from January 2018 to February 2023.

Racemic 9,10-diketo[7]helicene was successfully separated into enantiomers using a reversible and stereoselective reaction with 2,2'-diamino-1,1'-binaphthalene with moderate yields but with remarkable purity (>99% de). The enantiomerically pure diketone was used as a convenient starting material for the preparation of helicene-based push-pull molecules, which incorporated aza-aryl acceptors and diarylaminophenylene donor groups in a single step. A series of six push-pull systems, along with three reference molecules without donors, were prepared and studied using UV/vis and fluorescence measurements, circular dichroism, and DFT calculations.

Fluorination of carbohydrate ligands of lectins is a useful approach to examine their binding profile, improve their metabolic stability and lipophilicity, and convert them into F NMR-active probes. However, monofluorination of monovalent carbohydrate ligands often leads to a decreased or completely lost affinity. By chemical glycosylation, we synthesized the full series of methyl β-glycosides of N,N'-diacetylchitobiose (GlcNAcβ(1-4)GlcNAcβ1-OMe) and LacdiNAc (GalNAcβ(1-4)GlcNAcβ1-OMe) systematically monofluorinated at all hydroxyl positions.

In this study, we investigated the potential of long-range fluorine-carbon J-coupling for determining the structures of deoxyfluorinated disaccharides. Three disaccharides, previously synthesized as potential galectin inhibitors, exhibited through-space fluorine-carbon J-couplings. In our independent conformational analysis of these disaccharide derivatives, we employed a combination of density functional theory (DFT) calculations and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments.

In response to this need, our team developed a simple preparation method for stable sodium titanates which can serve as efficient agents for removal of radionuclides from water. With an emphasis on an environmentally friendly synthesis, the resulting materials were defined by a range of means and methods measuring pH, ionic strength, contact time or metal ion concentration in order to assess their potential for use and applications as sorbents.

Spruce wood and Typha (wetland plant) derived biochars pyrolyzed at 350 °C and 600 °C were tested for their sorption affinity for organic pollutants (diclofenac, methylparaben, benzotriazole and sodium 1-decanesulfonate) and nutrients (nitrate, ammonium, phosphate and boron) commonly found in greywater. Batch and column studies combined with molecular dynamics modelling determined the sorption capacity, kinetics, and described the underlying mechanisms. The spruce biochar (600 °C) exhibited the highest sorption capacity mainly for the tested organics.

This study examined the biotransformation of phytocannabinoids in human hepatocytes. The susceptibility of the tested compounds to transformations in hepatocytes exhibited the following hierarchy: cannabinol (CBN) > cannabigerol (CBG) > cannabichromene (CBC) > cannabidiol (CBD). Biotransformation included hydroxylation, oxidation to a carboxylic acid, dehydrogenation, hydrogenation, dehydration, loss/shortening of alkyl, glucuronidation and sulfation.

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO NPs) are used in a wide range of applications. Although inhalation of NPs is one of the most important toxicologically relevant routes, experimental studies on potential harmful effects of TiO NPs using a whole-body inhalation chamber model are rare. In this study, the profile of lymphocyte markers, functional immunoassays, and antioxidant defense markers were analyzed to evaluate the potential adverse effects of seven-week inhalation exposure to two different concentrations of TiO NPs (0.

In vitro ACE-1 inhibitory peptides were characterised previously from a number of microalgal species including (peptide IAPG), (peptides FDL, AFL, VVPPA), (peptide YMGLDLK), (peptides IW and LW) and indeed (peptides GMNNLTP and LEQ). The isolation of protein from using a combination of ammonium salt precipitation and xylanase treatment of resulting biomass combined with molecular weight cut off filtration to produce a permeate and characterisation of bioactive peptides is described. The Angiotensin-1-converting enzyme (ACE-1) IC value for the generated permeate fraction was 370 µg/mL.

In spite of advanced research on functional colloidal inorganic nanoparticles and their reactivity, room temperature reactive interactions between two different colloids have remained challenging so far. Laser ablation of titanium monoxide and silicon monoxide in ethanol and water allows the generation of TiO-derived and SiO-derived colloidal nanoparticles which were characterized for their stability, size distribution and zeta potentials with dynamic light scattering and after evaporation of solvent examined for their morphology, chemical and phase composition by scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction and small angle X-ray scattering. Aqueous and ethanolic TiO-derived colloids consist of anatase and monoclinic TiO, while ethanolic SiO-derived colloids are composed of crystalline and amorphous Si, nanocrystalline Si and SiO and aqueous SiO-derived colloids contain, in addition to these phases, a high pressure form of cristobalite.

Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychotropic cannabinoid produced by the genus Cannabis, is a phytoceutical that activates the endocannabinoid system (ECS) through binding to CB1 and CB2 receptors. The ECS is involved in cellular homeostasis and regulates metabolic processes in virtually all mammalian tissues. Published studies on CBD focus, inter alia, on its use in prophylaxis and as an anti-inflammatory agent.
