The initiation of parturition in sheep is influenced by multiple factors, with estrogens recognized as key contributors. However, the specific effects of estrogens in regulating the timing of delivery, fetal organ maturation, and neonatal adaptation to extrauterine life remain unclear. This study aimed to clarify the role of estradiol in the timing of parturition and neonatal outcomes in periparturient Rambouillet ewes by evaluating the relationship between maternal systemic estradiol and progesterone levels, the timing of delivery, and lamb birth weight, vigor, cortisol levels, mortality, and postnatal weight gain until weaning.

Evidence suggests that there is a rich and diverse microbial community in the semen of mammals, which may be important in reproductive health and fertility. However, the composition of ram seminal microbiota remains under-characterized, with factors shaping it still largely unknown. The objectives of this study were to; 1) characterize the seminal microbiota of mature rams and their ram lambs using 16S rRNA gene sequencing; 2) evaluate whether managing the mature rams on divergent planes of nutrition can influence their seminal microbiota and that of their male offspring; and 3) compare the seminal microbiota between mature rams and ram lamb cohorts to identify age-related microbiota characteristics.

The objective of this study was to determine the impact of beef production systems utilizing additive combinations of growth promotant technologies on animal and carcass performance and environmental outcomes. Crossbred steer calves ( =120) were stratified by birth date, birth weight, and dam age and assigned randomly to one of four treatments: 1) no technology (NT; control), 2) antibiotic treated (ANT; NT plus therapeutic antibiotics and monensin and tylosin), 3) implant treated (IMP; ANT plus a series of 3 implants, and 4) beta-agonist treated (BA; IMP plus ractopamine-HCl for the last 30 d prior to harvest). The hypothesis of this experiment was that increasing the inclusion level of distiller's dried grains with solubles (DDGS) in the diets would decrease semen quality but have no negative effects on growth performance. Following the removal of DDGS from the diet, it was hypothesized that the ram lambs would recover and become reproductively sound, independent of treatment. We hypothesized that a maternal diet greater in MP during the last third of gestation would yield improved offspring growth due to enhanced placental or mammary gland function. Our objective was to determine how MP intake during late gestation affected ewe and offspring performance from birth to weaning in ewes fed diets similar in total energy.
