Objectives: This systematic review sought to provide evidence for the effectiveness of common pharmacological interventions used for treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) population, considering studies attempting to find safe and effective drugs.
Methods: We searched for randomized controlled trials describing the effectiveness and/or safety profile of pharmacological interventions for treating ASD and ADHD or ASD with ADHD symptoms using three bibliographic databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase. We have chosen ADHD symptoms measured by any clinical scale as the primary outcome.

The development of new antifungal drugs has become a global priority, given the increasing cases of fungal diseases together with the rising resistance to available antifungal drugs. In this scenario, drug repositioning has emerged as an alternative for such development, with advantages such as reduced research time and costs. Propafenone is an antiarrhythmic drug whose antifungal activity is poorly described, being a good candidate for further study.

Liposomes functionalized with monoclonal antibodies offer targeted therapy for cancer, boasting advantages like sustained drug release, enhanced stability, passive accumulation in tumors, and interaction with overexpressed receptors on cancer cells. This study aimed to develop and characterize anti-EGFR immunoliposomes loaded with cabazitaxel and assess their properties against prostate cancer in vitro and in vivo. Using a Box-Behnken design, a formulation with soy phosphatidylcholine, 10% cholesterol, and a 1:20 drug-lipid ratio yielded nanometric particle size, low polydispersity and high drug encapsulation.

Background/aim: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm marked by abnormal clonal expansion of hematopoietic progenitor cells, displaying karyotypic aberrations and genetic mutations as prognostic indicators. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the European LeukemiaNet guidelines categorize BCR::ABL1 p190+ AML as high risk. This study explored the identification of the increased incidence of BCR::ABL1 p190+ in our AML population.

Alzheimer's Disease is a degenerative neurological condition which leads to a decline in memory and cognitive function. Chlorogenic Acid (CGA) presents properties including neuroprotective, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of CGA on cognitive impairments, neuroinflammation and neuronal damage in mice submitted to an experimental model of Sporadic Alzheimer Disease (SAD) induced by intracerebroventricular administration of streptozotocin (ICV-STZ).

The myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a heterogeneous group of clonal disorders of hematopoietic progenitor cells related to ineffective hematopoiesis and an increased risk of transformation to acute myelogenous leukemia. MDS is divided into categories, namely lineage dysplasia (MDS-SLD), MDS with ring sideroblasts (MDS-RS), MDS with multilineage dysplasia (MDS-MLD), MDS with excess blasts (MDS-EB). The International Prognostic Classification System (IPSS) ranks the patients as very low, low, intermediate, high, and very high based on disease evolution and survival rates.

Background/aim: The relevance of cytogenetic markers as prognostic risk factors has been demonstrated in a vast number of studies, with many prognostication tools utilizing these factors to determine treatment approaches. Patients aged above 60 years represent an important subgroup of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients, especially because they usually exhibit a poorer cytogenetic landscape and are less suitable for intensive treatments. The importance of evaluating prognostic parameters in AML, especially in low-income countries, prompted an investigation into CD38 expression and its effects.

The aim of this study was to develop a high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method for the determination of 6-cyanodopamine, 6-nitrodopamine, 6-nitrodopa, 6-nitroadrenaline and 6-bromodopamine in human plasma samples. Strata-X 33 μm solid-phase extraction cartridges were used for the extraction of the catecholamines from human plasma samples. The catecholamines were separated in a 150 × 3 mm Shim-pack GIST C-AQ column with 3 μm particle size, placed in an oven at 40°C and perfused with 82% mobile phase A (acetonitrile-HO; 90:10, v/v) + 0.

Aims: To evaluate the basal release of 6-nitrodopamine (6-ND) from human isolated seminal vesicles (HISV) and to characterize its action and origin.
Main Methods: Left HISV obtained from patients undergoing prostatectomy surgery was suspended in a 3-mL organ bath containing warmed (37 °C) and gassed (95%O:5%CO) Krebs-Henseleit's solution (KHS) with ascorbic acid. An aliquot of 2 mL of the supernatant was used to quantify catecholamines by LC-MS/MS.

Cancer remains a worldwide cause of morbidity and mortality. Investigational research efforts have included the administration of tumor-derived extracts to healthy animals. Having previously demonstrated that the administration of non-transmissible, human cancer-derived homogenates induced malignant tumors in mice, here, we examined the consequences of administering 50 or 100 µg of protein of crude homogenates from mammary carcinoma, pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and melanoma samples in 6 inoculations per week during 2 months.

Biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP), consisting of bioceramics such as HAp + β-TCP and Ca(PO)(OH) + Ca(PO), is a popular choice for optimizing performance due to its superior biological reabsorption and osseointegration. In this study, BCP was produced by calcining the bones of tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus) reared in net cages and slaughtered at an age ranging from 15 to 420 days. The bones were cleaned and dried, calcined at 900 °C for 8 h, and then subjected to high-energy grinding for 3 h to produce BCP powders.

Depression and anxiety disorders have their pathophysiologies linked to inflammation and oxidative stress. In this context, celecoxib (CLX) and etoricoxib (ETR) inhibit cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), an enzyme expressed by cells involved in the inflammatory process and found in the brain. Studies have been using CLX as a possible drug in the treatment of depression, although its mechanisms at the central nervous system level are not fully elucidated.

The selection of proper reference genes is critical for accurate gene expression analysis in all fields of biological and medical research, mainly because there are many distinctions between different tissues and specimens. Given this variability, even in known classic reference genes, demands of a comprehensive analysis platform is needed to identify the most suitable genes for each study. For this purpose, we present an analysis tool for assisting in decision-making in the analysis of reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) data.
