Background: Power dynamics are fundamental to therapeutic and supervisory relationships in psychotherapy. In cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and schema therapy (ST), the therapist's power management can help the patient make positive changes. On the other hand, the abuse of power can undermine the patient's autonomy and worsen therapeutic outcomes.

Previous murine studies have established that large-scale chromatin modifications upon completion of oocyte growth are associated with nucleolar transcriptional silencing. These modifications seem essential both for completion of the oocyte's meiosis and subsequent embryonic developmental success. Investigating this putative interconnection between nucleolar transcriptional activity and spatial chromatin organization towards completion of oocyte growth in pigs, we scrutinized whether 3D chromatin organization and heterochromatin localization, along with epigenetic markers, could indicate oocyte quality and predict developmental competence of harvested porcine oocytes.

A significant increase in interest in new, naturally occurring sources of antioxidants is evident not only in the food industry but also in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Plant sources such as fruits, both traditional and less common, are often investigated. Goji berries (, , and ) represent fruits rich in polyphenols, especially phenolic acids (38.

Overabundance of reactive oxygen species (oxidative distress) leads to redox homeostasis disturbance and is associated with many pathological conditions. Accumulating evidence suggests that oxidative distress may contribute to osteoporosis. This review thoroughly outlines the relationships among osteoporosis, redox homeostasis, and alcohol addiction, since these relations are not sufficiently known and subsequently summarized.

Background: As global agriculture faces the challenge of climate change, characterized by longer and more severe drought episodes, there is an increasing need for crop diversification and improved plant breeding. Buckwheat is one of the climate-resilient candidates for future important crops with remarkable adaptability to various biotic and abiotic stresses. As an underbred crop, a large number of genotypes should be assessed for the breeding of superior plants.

Single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) of ABCB1 gene encoding glycoprotein P might be connected with increased or decreased levels of direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC), and therefore with DOAC-related adverse bleeding or embolism. The aim of this study was to perform a targeted exome sequencing (TES) of ABCB1 gene in DOAC-treated patients with atrial fibrillation, who experienced a DOAC-related adverse event (AE) during the therapy. Targeted next generation sequencing was employed to examine SNVs in ABCB1 gene, which served as the basis for haplotype analysis.

Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation are important drivers in the pathogenesis and progression of many chronic diseases, such as cancers of the breast, kidney, lung, and others, autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis), cardiovascular diseases (hypertension, atherosclerosis, arrhythmia), neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease), mental disorders (depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder), gastrointestinal disorders (inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer), and other disorders. With the increasing demand for less toxic and more tolerable therapies, flavonoids have the potential to effectively modulate the responsiveness to conventional therapy and radiotherapy. Flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds found in fruits, vegetables, grains, and plant-derived beverages.

Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera: Silphidae) is an omnivorous beetle species known for damaging agricultural crops, making it an important target for pest control strategies. Despite its impact, no studies have yet examined the anatomical and histological structures of the male digestive and reproductive tracts of . Therefore, this study aimed to describe these structures in detail, which could provide insights into potential control methods.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), a serious metabolic disorder, is a worldwide health problem due to the alarming rise in prevalence and elevated morbidity and mortality. Chronic hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and ineffective insulin effect and secretion are hallmarks of T2DM, leading to many serious secondary complications. These include, in particular, cardiovascular disorders, diabetic neuropathy, nephropathy and retinopathy, diabetic foot, osteoporosis, liver damage, susceptibility to infections and some cancers.

Experimental studies have shown that osmosis could be one of the mechanisms of water transport in porous materials that act, to a certain extent, as semipermeable membranes. In this paper, an experimental apparatus and the corresponding model to measure and determine the osmotic efficiency, , of bulk porous materials are described. Both the apparatus and model to interpret water transport in samples are modifications of those of Sherwood and Craster.

Background: Although a lot of attention is paid to the flaws of balance training research in older adults, the low methodological quality and incomplete reporting of studies still limit the knowledge transfer between research and practice. These known shortcomings are considered also as barriers for creating recommendations for balance training in older adults. Despite the considerable efforts to improve the scientific quality of studies, such recommendations have not yet been formulated to date.
