Surgery continues to remain an integral component of treatment, especially for nonrhabdomyosarcoma soft tissue sarcoma as compared to rhabdomyosarcoma owing to their general insensitivity to chemotherapy. A key determinant of outcomes, particularly for extremity tumors includes complete tumor resection with negative margins; however, a significant limitation for limb salvage surgery is the adherence of sarcomas to vital vascular structures. Philadelphia chromosome-like acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-like ALL) accounts for ~15% of patients with high-risk ALL with an activated tyrosine kinase profile similar to Philadelphia chromosome positive ALL, without the presence of BCR-ABL1 rearrangement. ABL-class genes (ABL1, ABL2, PDGFRB, CSF1R and CRLF2) comprise the second major subgroup of Ph-like ALL cases but presence of ABL2 gene rearrangement in leukemia is rarely reported. We report a novel case of ABL2 chromosomal rearrangement that results from t(1;7)(q25;q32) in a patient with high-risk ALL.

This is a largest series of 5 cases of lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LEC) of the breast attempting to look at the expression of basal cytokeratins (CKs), human papillomavirus, and Epstein-Barr virus-encoded RNAs in these tumors. Five cases were selected after stringent evaluation of all breast carcinomas showing dense lymphoid infiltration. Histologically, all these tumors showed the typical histology except 1 tumor that showed an unusual granulomatous response.

Even though bystander effects pertaining to radiation risk assessment has been extensively studied, the molecular players of radiation induced bystander effect (RIBE) in the context of cancer radiotherapy are poorly known. In this regard, the present study is aimed to investigate the effect of irradiated tumor cells on the bystander counterparts in mouse fibrosarcoma (WEHI 164 cells) tumor model. Mice co-implanted with WEHI 164 cells γ-irradiated with a lethal dose of 15 Gy and unirradiated (bystander) WEHI 164 cells showed inhibited tumor growth, which was measured in terms of tumor volume and Luc+WEHI 164 cells based bioluminescence in vivo imaging.

Purpose: We have evaluated the hyperthermia efficacy of oleic acid-functionalised Fe(3)O(4) magnetic nanoparticles (MN-OA) under in vivo conditions and elucidated the underlying mechanism of tumour growth inhibition.

Materials And Methods: The efficacy and mechanism of tumour growth inhibition by MN-OA-mediated magnetic hyperthermia therapy (MHT) was evaluated in a murine fibrosarcoma tumour model (WEHI-164) using techniques such as TUNEL assay, Western blotting (WB), immunofluorescence (IF) staining and histopathological examination. In addition, bio-distribution of MN-OA in tumour/other target organs and its effect on normal organ function were studied by Prussian blue staining and serum biochemical analysis, respectively.

Background: An in-frame fusion protein between echinoderm microtubule-associated protein-like 4 (EML4) and anaplastic large cell kinase (ALK) genes is seen in some non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The contemporaneous occurrence of adrenal ganglioneuroma and left-sided inferior vena cava is uncommon and is previously never reported. We present a case wherein the two entities were fortuitously associated on preoperative imaging. This information facilitated successful surgical resection and avoided catastrophic vascular injury.
