Lampreys possess electroreceptors distributed across their body surface, yet the only previously documented electric signals in these animals were ventilatory myograms, hypothesized to enable short-range electrolocation. Here, we report the discovery of biphasic, spike-like electric signals in free-swimming lampreys, recorded in both moving and immobile individuals. These signals exhibited amplitudes several dozen times greater than ventilatory signals, with durations approximately half as long.

Pulmovermis cyanovitellosus Coil and Kuntz, 1960 is a species of hemiurid trematode that localizes in the lung of sea snakes, an unusual trait for this group of parasites. This study addresses the long-standing uncertainty about the internal classification of soldier beetles (Elateroidea: Cantharidae). Four datasets were compiled and analysed: 66 genes for 14 terminals, 15 mtDNA genes for 79 terminals, one mtDNA and two rRNA genes for 217 terminals, and barcodes for 576 terminals. Macrofauna can contribute substantially to the organic matter cycling on the seafloor, yet the role of terrestrial and chemosynthetic organic matter in the diets of microphagous (deposit and suspension) feeders is poorly understood. In the present study, we used stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen to test the hypothesis that the terrestrial organic matter supplied with river runoff and local chemosynthetic production at methane seeps might be important organic matter sources for macrofaunal consumers on the Laptev Sea shelf. We sampled locations from three habitats with the presumed differences in organic matter supply: "Delta" with terrestrial inputs from the Lena River, "Background" on the northern part of the shelf with pelagic production as the main organic matter source, and "Seep" in the areas with detected methane seepage, where chemosynthetic production might be available.

We studied the seasonal variation of adaptive humoral immunity (AHI) in northern red-backed vole ( Pallas, 1779, RBV) and gray-sided vole ( Sundevall, 1846, GSV) in Tomsk region of Western Siberia. Immunoresponsiveness (IR) to sheep red blood cells was assessed by the number of antibody-producing cells in the spleen. The use of a generalized linear model to analyze the effects of species, sex, year of research, and season of withdrawal of individuals from nature on IR showed a significant effect of species identity, season of animal capture, and the interaction of species with season.

Sympatric fish morphs diversifying in their feeding pattern in fresh waters typically implement alternative migratory tactics so that omnivores become migrants and specialists-residents. Charrs of the genus Salvelinus populating the lower Kamchatka River (Northeast Asia) are a rare example wherein two related sympatric morphs both implement a variety of life-history tactics in parallel.
