Plasma cell myeloma (multiple myeloma) is a blood cancer characterized by the clonal proliferation of plasma cells in the bone marrow. Treatment strategies evolve year by year, new drugs getting Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved each year. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) therapies are an advanced form of immunotherapy that engineer T cells to recognize and destroy cancer cells.

Lymphomas are a group of malignant proliferations of B, T or NK-lymphoid cells at different stages of maturation. While they primarily occur in lymph nodes or lymphatic tissues, they can also involve bone marrow, blood, or other organs. Despite advances in treatment, many patients experience relapse, or develop refractory disease, prompting the development of new therapies.

Background: No validated model incorporates surgical parameters for complication risk in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) resection. We evaluated a novel Surgical Burden Score (SBS), integrating adjusted blood loss (aBL; mL/kg) and operative time (hours) via a Pythagorean formula, and developed an SBS-based model to predict complications.

Methods: Patients undergoing curative-intent hepatectomy for HCC(2000-2023) were identified from an international database.

A new staging system for hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis in the era of specific amyloidosis therapies.

ESC Heart Fail

September 2025

French Referral Centre for Cardiac Amyloidosis, GRC Amyloid Research Institute, Amyloidosis Mondor Network, Henri-Mondor Teaching Hospital, AP-HP, Creteil, France.

Objectives: Currently, there are two prognosis staging systems validated for transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR). We sought to develop a new staging system dedicated to hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRv) patients on specific treatments.

Methods And Results: A total of 258 patients diagnosed with ATTRv from two cardiac amyloidosis reference centres in France and Romania were stratified into three disease stages based on NT-proBNP, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and global longitudinal strain (GLS).

Background: Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a clinical-radiographic phenomenon characterized by vasogenic edema, predominantly affecting the posterior regions of the brain. The hemorrhagic variant of PRES has been increasingly recognized, complicating the clinical picture and prognosis.

Methods: This meta-analysis was conducted in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.

Cervical cancer (CC), caused mainly by high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV), remains a global health challenge despite being preventable. The disease's incidence and mortality rates significantly vary across regions, highlighting the need for effective screening programs. The World Health Organization prioritizes CC screening to monitor and eliminate the disease.

AIDS-related mortality has significantly decreased due to antiretroviral therapy (ART), leading to a substantial increase in average lifespan. Consequently, cardiovascular diseases have become a growing concern among people living with HIV (PLWH). This study aimed to assess the cardiovascular risk profile of people living with HIV receiving ART and to explore the association between traditional and HIV-related factors with increased cardiovascular risk.

The advent of immunotherapy in the treatment of cancer has opened a new dimension in the management of this complex multifaceted disease, bringing hope to many patients whose tumors have failed to respond to conventional therapies. The adoptive T cell therapy has since been extended to the treatment of several hematologic malignancies, initially in relapsed settings and more recently at the forefront of treatment due to high response rates. Despite exciting initial results, the preclinical antitumor effects of the first long-term studies show that CAR (Chimeric Antigen Receptor)-T cells have been slow to translate to the clinical setting, with early clinical trials showing suboptimal responses.

Introduction: The concept of "very early" ICC ( ≤ 2 cm, single tumor) has been introduced in the context of LT. Due to the limited number of patients in this subset, the characteristics and long-term outcomes have been ill-defined. We sought to assess long-term outcomes of very early ICC patients undergoing liver resection using a large, multi-institutional database.

In 2025, the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) released updated definitions and diagnostic criteria for disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), reflecting advances in understanding its pathophysiology. DIC is now defined as an acquired, life-threatening condition involving systemic coagulation activation, impaired fibrinolysis, and endothelial injury. The revised framework emphasizes the condition's dynamic nature, progressing from preclinical abnormalities to overt clinical manifestations such as bleeding and organ dysfunction.

Genetic abnormalities in multiple myeloma (MM) influence treatment outcomes and may inform therapeutic decisions. The most common chromosomal translocation in MM is t(11;14); however, its role in disease progression is not well defined. We report results from MEDICI (NCT04721002), a global, minimally invasive, prospective study evaluating t(11;14) status in newly diagnosed MM (NDMM) and relapsed/refractory MM (RRMM).

The breast cancer long-term survival rate has improved; early detection of local recurrence and second primary cancers has been crucial to this success. Mammography is the standard imaging technique for follow-up, but its sensitivity is affected by breast density and post-treatment changes. This article discusses the role of mammography in the follow-up of women after breast cancer treatment, and the use of additional imaging techniques.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by the immune system attacking the central nervous system, leading to demyelination and neurodegeneration. This work investigates the relationship between specific human leukocyte antigen (HLA) polymorphisms and MS, aiming to reveal the immunogenetic background of this disease for more individualized management approaches. This study employed a case-control design, analyzing HLA allele frequencies in 179 MS patients and 200 control subjects using next-generation sequencing, The key findings indicate significant associations between several HLA Class I and II alleles and MS, including HLA-B*35:03:01:03, HLA-C*04:01:01:14, HLA-DRB1*15:01:01:26, and HLA-DQA1*05:05:01:02.

High rates of depression and anxiety have been reported among patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The bidirectional relationship between these two conditions, with each affecting the progression of the other, leads to a reduced quality of life. The aim of this study was to identify a miRNA-based pattern that may either be unique to IBD or associated with this complex phenotype.

Objective: To investigate the impact of cumulative liver age on graft survival in liver transplant recipients.

Summary Of Background Data: Organ shortage has led to increased use of elderly donor livers for an ageing group of recipients, particularly in Europe. We hypothesized that hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) enhances graft resilience against aging in livers from elderly donors.

Purpose Of The Review: As cancer survival rates are increasing, alternative treatments to improve quality of life, such as cannabinoids, are gaining attention. Although cannabinoids are widely used to manage cancer-related symptoms, clear guidelines are lacking. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the safety and efficacy of cannabinoids in the management of symptoms among cancer patients.
