Achieving optimal alignment and fit is a key aspect of ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) design, as it directly influences the effectiveness of the device. While digital workflows offer the potential to integrate quantifiable alignment measures and corrections into AFO design, a major challenge remains in controlling lower-limb positioning and alignment during 3D scanning. This study aimed to evaluate pediatric AFO alignment and shape differences of directly scanned (live scan) vs casted lower limb models.

Although multiparameter cellular morphological profiling methods and three-dimensional (3D) biological model systems can potentially provide complex insights for pharmaceutical discovery campaigns, there have been relatively few reports combining these experimental approaches. In this study, we used the U87 glioblastoma cell line grown in a 3D spheroid format to validate a multiparameter cellular morphological profiling screening method. The steps of this approach include 3D spheroid treatment, cell staining, fully automated digital image acquisition, image segmentation, numerical feature extraction, and multiple machine learning approaches for cellular profiling.

Many species use camouflage to dissimulate their true form and avoid detection or recognition. In natural habitats, the three-dimensional structure of an organism's body can present challenges for camouflage, as overhead illumination creates luminance gradients ('self-shadows') across the body surface and cast shadows (when light is blocked by the object itself) on the surface behind the object. While self-shadows are known to increase prey detectability to predators, it is unclear whether this is also the case for cast shadows.
