Article Abstract

is a unitary conceptualization proposed by Rogerian scholar, Dr. Violet M. Malinski. In this scholarly dialogue column, she and her colleague, nurse scholar Dr. Donna J. Perry, discuss why this conceptualization is important to them, the theoretical, philosophical, and research underpinnings, and other related human-environment topics.

Assessing the Intercultural Competence of Faculty in Academic Medicine and Health Professions: Concepts and Metrics.

J Health Equity

April 2025

National Initiative on Gender, Culture and Leadership in Medicine: C-Change, Institute for Economic and Racial Equity, The Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts, United States of America.

Introduction: Diverse perspectives are considered essential for achieving the best science and education in biomedicine. To evaluate attitudes and abilities necessary to achieve the benefits of drawing on diverse perspectives, we assessed five novel metrics: Valuing Diversity: Attitudes and Behaviors, Antisexism and Antiracism Skills, Change Agency for Equity, Identity Self-Awareness, and Cognitive Empathy.

Methods: Using the C-Change Faculty Survey we surveyed faculty in medical and other health profession schools.

Pubertal development is believed to influence cognitive and behavioral development during adolescence, but measuring puberty is challenging. Difficulties stem not only from practical issues, which have been extensively discussed in the literature, but also from the inherent complexity of pubertal development from a physiological perspective. Here we discuss conceptual issues related to measuring and interpreting pubertal effects on brain, cognitive, and behavioral development.

Aims: To develop a conceptual model integrating Robinson's Theory of Trust and Watson's Caritas Processes to guide trust-building approaches and caring practices that support adolescents and young adults with HIV during the healthcare transition from paediatric to adult care.

Design: This is a discursive, theory synthesis paper that integrates theoretical frameworks and conceptually relevant literature to inform model development. The paper emphasises the importance of trust and caring science in the context of long-term engagement in care.

Macroscopic irreversibility in quantum systems: Free expansion in a fermionic chain.

Phys Rev E

June 2025

Gakushuin University, Department of Physics, Mejiro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo 171-8588, Japan.

We consider a free fermion chain with uniform nearest-neighbor hopping and let it evolve from an arbitrary initial state with a fixed macroscopic number of particles. We then prove that, at a sufficiently large and typical time, the measured coarse-grained density distribution is almost uniform with (quantum mechanical) probability extremely close to one. This establishes the emergence of irreversible behavior, i.
