Background: Spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy by robotic surgery is a safe and feasible surgical technique. Currently, spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy represents an alternative to the classical distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy, in the case of benign and low-grade malignant diseases of the body or pancreas tail. The reasons for preserving the spleen are based on the reduction of postoperative complications, such as post-splenectomy infections, subphrenic abscess, portal thrombosis, pulmonary hypertension, thrombocytosis, and thromboembolism.

Background: High % of low-voltage area (LVA), a surrogate of scar, is associated with atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). Noninvasive biomarkers of LVA are a medical need for PVI decision.

Objective: We aimed to identify the proteome profile of plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs) associated with high % LVA, their cellular origin, and their regulation by hyperglycemia.

Allergic asthma is an inflammatory airway disease influenced by genetic and environmental factors and orchestrated by imbalance between T helper 1 cell (Th1) and two immune responses. Inflammation contributes to pathological changes and remodeling in tissues such as the vascular, lung, heart, and beds. The purpose for this study was to evaluate the effects of allergic asthma on heart pathology and remodeling.

Objective: Limited data are available on treatment of atrial fibrillation during ascending aortic aneurysm and aortic valve surgery. Ablation at the time of isolated aortic valve surgery has a Society of Thoracic Surgeons Class I indication. We sought to determine early and late outcomes of concomitant atrial fibrillation surgery at the time of ascending aortic aneurysm + aortic valve surgery.
