Heterogeneous catalysis involves the chemical transformation of molecules at an electrode surface, but experimentally probing the impact of the electric field on the structural dynamics of the molecules and any accompanying solvent dynamics remains a significant challenge. In this study, we conducted molecular dynamics simulations of a system comprising pure water in contact with gold (Au) electrodes coated with 4-mercaptobenzonitrile (4-MBN) molecules, as recently measured using 2D IR spectroscopy (Ryan, M. J. 2023, 120, e2314998120, 10.1073/pnas.2314998120). Our simulations revealed that the 4-MBN molecules can adopt two distinct conformations with different tilt angles and that the kinetics of switching between the two conformations depends on both the applied voltage and the packing of the monolayer. There is an accompanying change in solvation upon conformational switching. The results illustrate that the application of a voltage to an electrode alters both the solvation and molecular dynamics at the interface, which has implications for heterogeneous electrochemistry.

Background: Fetal tachycardias can cause adverse fetal outcomes including ventricular dysfunction, hydrops, and fetal demise. Postnatally, ECG is the gold standard, but, in fetal practice, echocardiography is used most frequently to diagnose and monitor fetal arrhythmias. Noninvasive extraction of the fetal ECG (fECG) may provide additional information about the electrophysiological mechanism and monitoring of intermittent arrhythmias.

Waste three-way catalysts (TWCs) and waste LiCoO batteries represent critical environmental challenges due to hazardous components yet contain high-value resources, and their recycling has garnered widespread attention. We propose a novel 'waste-to-waste' synergistic recycling where spent LiCoO batteries reconstruct mineral phases of waste TWCs, enabling co-recovery of platinum group metals and Li/Co without traditional oxidants. However, the environmental performance of this process still requires further analysis.

Purpose: Tracer kinetic models are used in arterial spin labeling (ASL); however, deciding which model parameters to fix or fit is not always trivial. The identifiability of the resultant system of equations is useful to consider, since it will likely impact parameter uncertainty. Here, we analyze the identifiability of two-compartment models used in multi-echo (ME) blood-brain-barrier (BBB)-ASL and evaluate the reliability of the fitted water-transfer rate ).

Arthroplasty surgery is a common and successful end-stage intervention for advanced osteoarthritis. Yet, postoperative outcomes vary significantly among patients, leading to a plethora of measures and associated measurement approaches to monitor patient outcomes. Traditional approaches rely heavily on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), which are widely used, but often lack sensitivity to detect function changes (e.

This study introduces a back filter installed at the end of the exhaust pipe of city buses. The impact of the metal type used in its construction on the absorption of suspended particles and the reduction of sulfides in diesel engine exhaust gases is investigated. The back filter is constructed from three metals: copper, zinc, and nickel.
