Genomics offers a promising solution by enabling precise cattle selection and breeding to boost productivity and sustainability. In Peru, livestock plays a crucial role in the economy and food security. Despite its importance, the sector faces significant challenges, including poor pasture quality, limited conservation practices, a shortage of trained professionals, minimal use of genomic tools, and an incomplete understanding of the genetic potential of both native and introduced breeds. Since the 1940s, Peru has advanced in genetic improvement through artificial insemination, improved semen preservation, the establishment of a National Semen Bank, and the introduction of new breeds. Key developments have included embryo transfer, in vitro fertilization, and pioneering cloning efforts. Future perspectives for livestock genomics in Peru involve expanding bioinformatics capacity, improving genomic infrastructure, and integrating genomic selection into national breeding strategies. This review discusses the history, current status, challenges, and future perspectives of livestock genomics in Peru.

Objective: This study applied the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) to explore the barriers and enablers to optimizing post-operative pain management and supporting safe opioid use from the perspectives of both patients and health care professionals, applying the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF).
Design: Experience-based co-design (EBCD) qualitative study.
Methods: In the initial phase of the EBCD approach, focus groups were conducted comprising 20 participants, including 8 patients and 12 health care professionals involved in post-operative care.

Surface photocatalysis holds significant promise for converting solar energy into chemical fuels and addressing environmental challenges. While calculations provide critical insights into the thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of catalytic reactions, applying these methods to surface photocatalysis remains challenging. In this work, we discuss the key challenges that need to be addressed when using calculations to understand surface photocatalytic processes, the reasons behind these challenges, and the potential directions and opportunities for overcoming them in the future.

Background: Over the past decade, calls for research assessment reform have grown, led by initiatives such as the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and the Leiden Manifesto, and, more recently, the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA). A key element being discussed as part of research assessment reform is a shift towards more qualitative assessments, focussed on the content of research and the broad skills and competencies of researchers, and the array of contributions they make to knowledge creation and innovation. Narrative CV formats have emerged as a good practice example for enabling qualitative assessments of research projects and researchers, and are becoming more widely piloted and implemented.

Dental schools stand at a crossroads. While research drives clinical innovation and improves patient outcomes, the pipeline for training future dentist-scientists remains underdeveloped. Programs such as DDS/DMD-PhD pathways and NIDCR-supported initiatives aim to integrate scientific inquiry with clinical training.
