Article Abstract

Background: Hypertrophic and keloid scars are challenging to treat and can cause both aesthetic and functional problems. Traditional treatments such as laser therapy and corticosteroids have limited effectiveness and high recurrence rates. However, the emergence of photodynamic therapy (PDT) combined with micro-needling, especially when using methylene blue as a photosensitizer (PS) at different concentrations, offers a promising approach for scar treatment.

Objective: This study evaluates the effectiveness of combining PDT, micro-needling, and methylene blue at 1% and 0.1% concentrations to improve the quality of hypertrophic and keloid scars.

Methods: Novel Study Design: a randomized, double-blind clinical trial was conducted on 37 patients with 94 hypertrophic and keloid scars. Patients were divided into four groups based on scar type and methylene blue concentration. Each group underwent five treatment sessions, and scars were assessed using the Japan Scar Scale (JSS) and the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS).

Results: Significant Improvements: after five treatment sessions, we observed substantial improvements in various scar parameters. The Evaluation part of Japan Scar Scale (JSS) scores decreased from an average of 14.69 ± 2.81 at baseline to 4.69 ± 0.92 after six months, indicating a significant reduction in scar severity. The patient-observer scar assessment scale results show a notable improvement in Flexibility and thickness, with a 71% reduction in stiffness and a 69% reduction in pain. Overall, patient satisfaction increased by 60%, and visible improvements in pigmentation and vascularity were reported. The use of 1% methylene blue led to better outcomes than 0.1%, possibly due to enhanced light penetration and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Importantly, no severe side effects were observed, and patient compliance remained high throughout the study.

Conclusion: Combining PDT and micro-needling using 1% methylene blue improves scar quality and prevents it from worsening, particularly for keloid scars. Further studies are recommended to confirm these findings and explore long-term effects.

Myocardial fibrosis, a key pathological feature of hypertensive heart disease (HHD), remains diagnostically challenging due to limited clinical tools. In this study, a FAPI-targeted uptake mechanism previously reported by our group, originally developed for tumor imaging, is extended to the detection of myocardial fibrosis in HHD using [F]F-NOTA-FAPI-MB. The diagnostic performance of this tracer is compared with those of [F]F-FDG, [F]F-FAPI-42, and [F]F-NOTA-FAP2286, and its potential for fluorescence imaging is also evaluated.

Effect of millimeter range electromagnetic waves (MM EMW) with the frequency 51.8 GHz on the interaction of DNA-specific ligands-intercalators acridine orange (AO) and methylene blue (MB) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) has been studied. The measurements were implemented by the spectroscopic methods that open new opportunities for such goals.

Thin films of CuSn Gd S were prepared on soda-lime glass substrates using spin coating in a sulfur-rich environment. We investigated how doping CuSnS with gadolinium (Gd) affected its structural, morphological, and optical properties using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and UV-Vis spectroscopy. XRD showed that all samples had a polycrystalline monoclinic structure, while FE-SEM revealed a mix of spherical and polygon-shaped grains.

Bismuth ferrite (BiFeO), a perovskite oxide with both ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic properties, has emerged as a promising material for environmental cleanup due to its piezo-photocatalytic activity. The material's ability to degrade organic pollutants, such as azo dyes, under both light irradiation and mechanical stress (ultrasonic waves) offers a dual-action mechanism for efficient wastewater treatment. In this work, we explore the synthesis of BiFeO nanoparticles a simple sol-gel method, followed by characterization of their structural, magnetic, and photocatalytic properties.

The increasing pollution of water bodies from various industrial wastewater discharges has raised significant environmental concerns because these effluents contain toxic, nonbiodegradable compounds that pose serious risks to living organisms. In particular, the textile and pharmaceutical industries routinely use dyes that severely degrade water quality and lead to significant environmental issues. Therefore, effective removal of these dyes from industrial wastewater is crucial for mitigating pollution.
