Article Abstract

There is an unprecedented growth in health and rehabilitation technologies influencing service delivery. While adopting emergent or existent technologies may add value to rehabilitation services and outcomes, clinicians face uncertainties on whether and how to adopt new technologies. Because of these challenges, rehabilitation stakeholders need to be active agents in the development, adoption, and ongoing evaluation of a given technology's impact. This special communication presents the Rehabilitation Technology Implementation for Promising Solutions (Rehab TIPS) Framework. This Framework, designed by the multidisciplinary Rehab TIPS workgroup, integrates established theories toward guiding rehabilitation clinicians in a systematic process of selecting and adopting valuable technologies. This special communication details the underlying models that informed the Rehab TIPS Framework. Then, the two components of the Rehab TIPS Framework are outlined: 1) a decision-making process to guide the selection of appropriate technologies for adoption, and 2) the three phases of technology adoption by individuals within a socio-ecological context. Finally, we discuss how the Rehab TIPS Framework can be used in the rehabilitation field, including future directions for advancing the science and practice of technology adoption in rehabilitation.

Background: Transfer of intercostal nerves to the radial nerve branch innervating the long head of the triceps muscle for elbow extension is indicated in patients with traumatic brachial plexus palsy that is either the pan-plexus type or C5-C7 palsy with no triceps muscle function. The procedure aims to restore triceps muscle function through the use of the intercostal nerves, which are expendable nerves, as donors.

Description: The procedure is performed by first identifying the third to fifth intercostal nerves and coaptating them to the radial nerve branch innervating the long head of the triceps muscle.

Introduction: Persistent pain after finishing breast cancer treatment is a common and disabling problem. The current state-of-the-art pain management advocates, in addition to biomedical (non-)pharmacological approaches, a biopsychosocial rehabilitation approach to address persistent pain, combining pain science education with promoting an active lifestyle through self-regulation techniques. We propose testing an innovative eHealth self-management support programme for this purpose in the breast cancer population with persistent pain after finishing cancer treatment.

Introduction: Severe maxillary atrophy presents significant challenges in oral rehabilitation, particularly for patients refusing conventional bone augmentation procedures. This study evaluates the 3-year clinical outcomes of digitally planned subperiosteal implants in 12 cases of extreme atrophy (Class V and VI of the Cawood and Howell Classification), analyzing survival rates, complication patterns, and providing evidence-based technical recommendations.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective case series included patients with maxillary atrophy who declined conventional implants or bone grafting, opting instead for immediate loading under local anesthesia.
