Objective: This systematic review and synthesis aimed to describe the frequency and characteristics of knee extensor exercise prescriptions within patellofemoral pain (PFP) interventions and to assess the extent to which key training variables are reported. By doing so, it sought to inform and support more transparent and standardized reporting practices in exercise-based rehabilitation for individuals with PFP.
Method: This systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. A literature search was performed in January 2024 across Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, and SportDiscus. Studies were included if they investigated interventions incorporating knee extensor exercises for PFP.
Results: Seventy-nine studies met the inclusion criteria. The most commonly prescribed exercises were the straight leg raise, squat, and open-chain knee extension, typically performed as three sets of ten repetitions with bodyweight resistance. However, key training variables such as range of motion and intensity were often inadequately reported, limiting reproducibility and clinical applicability.
Conclusion: Knee extensor training for PFP predominantly consists of low-load, moderate-volume exercises, differing from conventional strength training recommendations. The lack of detailed reporting on critical variables, such as intensity and range of motion, reduces the clarity and applicability of rehabilitation protocols. Standardized reporting and further research are needed to optimize exercise prescription for PFP management.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the safety and effectiveness of an accelerated (AR) versus conservative (CR) rehabilitation regimen following surgical repair of proximal hamstring tendon avulsions.
Methods: This prospective randomized controlled trial (RCT) allocated patients undergoing proximal hamstring tendon repair to either a braced, partial weight-bearing rehabilitation regime (CR = 30) or an accelerated, unbraced regime, which permitted full weight-bearing as tolerated (AR = 27). Patients were evaluated pre-operatively and at 6 weeks, 3 and 6 months post-surgery, via patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), patient satisfaction and global rating of change (GRC) scores.

Postoperative infections following orthopedic fixation can lead to devastating consequences, particularly in patients with comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus. We present a rare case of a 61-year-old female patient with a patella fracture treated with tension band wiring who developed a severe polymicrobial infection resulting in complete destruction of the patellar tendon. Multiple debridements, removal of implants, and prolonged targeted antibiotic therapy were necessary.

It is unknown how knee osteoarthritis pain affects joint power distribution while cycling. The study purposes were to (1) investigate if seat height, workload and any difference in hip or knee extensor strength affected asymmetry of hip, knee and ankle joint power during cycling; and (2) determine the relationship between knee osteoarthritis pain asymmetry and joint power asymmetry at the hips, knees, ankles and total leg. Asymmetry was the difference between dominant and non-dominant legs.

Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) is a leading cause of non-traumatic spinal cord disorders in older adults. Gait instability and balance dysfunction are common in DCM, even in the absence of clinically evident lower limb weakness. We hypothesized that subclinical weakness, measured through maximal voluntary isometric contractions (MVICs) of the knee extensors and ankle plantar flexors, is associated with impaired gait and balance in individuals with DCM.
