In palliative care, effective communication about anticipated death is critical for aligning therapeutic goals, managing family expectations, and ensuring dignified care. However, prognostic uncertainty - particularly regarding the time of death - remains a challenge due to the limited reliability of current methods. This study explores the potential of radar-derived motion biomarkers as a novel approach to distinguish between living and deceased patients, addressing the need for objective decision-support tools in palliative care.

Immunogenic cell death (ICD) can enhance the immunogenicity of cold tumors, convert them into immune-responsive hot tumors, and improve the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy. Because ICD inducers cause cell swelling, membrane rupture, and the release of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), effective screening of ICD inducers requires a system capable of rapidly and accurately assessing morphological changes and DAMP dynamics on a large scale, thus highlighting the need for advanced image-processing capabilities. In the present study, we developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based detector to screen for ICD inducers by identifying the typical morphologies of dying cells undergoing ICD.

Background: Nursing in palliative medicine combines primary patient care with the special challenges of this medical field (eg, handling the processes of dying, grief, and death). These cause high stress levels and burden on the nursing staff, resulting in an early exit from working life because of physical or psychological disorders like burnout.
Objective: DiPa (digitally identifying and minimizing stressors in palliative care) is a prospective study investigating the feasibility of measuring burden and its causes in palliative care using methods of subjective and objective stress detection.
