In recent years, the catalytic activity of scandium triflate Sc(OTf) has attracted significant attention due to its robust Lewis acidity and the oxophilicity of Sc. These features have led to impressive progress in developing diverse organic reactions, including C-C bond formation. The Sc also facilitates single electron transfer in photoinduced reactions either by coordination to an organophotoredox catalyst, which modifies its redox reactivity, or by the formation of a scandium-superoxide anion complex after electron transfer from a light-absorbing redox-active compound. The prior consideration of Sc as a redox-inactive/innocent metal ion initially hampered the investigation of the possibility of using Sc(OTf) as a sole visible light photoredox catalyst. This work demonstrates the use of Sc(OTf) as a visible light photocatalyst capable of direct and mild aerobic oxidative C-H functionalisation of aromatic substrates by oxidation of the benzylic position and direct cyanation of the aromatic ring.

Multivalent protein-protein interactions play essential roles in mediating liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) that drives biomolecular condensate formation. Here, we systematically investigate how the spatial distribution and relative size of protein binding domains (PBDs) would influence LLPS in a mixture of spherical proteins and RNA single strands by using a patchy-particle polymer model, wherein each protein contains a fixed number of PBDs on the surface distributed closely or sparsely. Intriguingly, we find that LLPS behavior exhibits a nontrivial dependence on the cooperative interplay between PBD distribution and protein size: while sparsely distributed PBDs are more favorable to LLPS for small proteins, closely packed PBDs facilitate LLPS for larger counterparts.

The degradation of colorless tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH), a widely used antibiotic, is a significant environmental concern due to its persistence in aquatic systems. The zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticle fabricated melamine-formaldehyde polymer (MFP)-based nanocomposite (ZnS-MFP) was prepared via a hydrothermal polymerization method, followed by surface modification through a simple precipitation route. The degradation of TCH through photocatalysis adheres to pseudo-first-order kinetics with a significantly faster rate under natural sunlight than under artificial bulb light.

Objective: This study evaluated the effect of sequential therapy with different dosages of Mexidol on the stabilization of glaucomatous optic neuropathy (GON) in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
Material And Methods: The study included 80 patients (160 eyes) with stage II and III POAG, randomized into three groups comparable by age, gender, and distribution of glaucoma stage. All patients received sequential therapy with Mexidol (14 days parenterally followed by 90 days orally).
