Article Abstract

This study explores the interplay between molecular recognition and acid-base reactivity in two novel Zn-calix[6]arene funnel complexes featuring phenol units in place of the anisole units present in the parent systems. The two complexes differ in the accessibility of their third coordination sphere. NMR and X-ray crystallography revealed that, like their anisole-based predecessors, these new complexes can encapsulate neutral guests such as acetonitrile. However, in contrast to the parent systems, which strongly bind primary amines, the new phenol-based systems undergo a base-induced structural reorganization upon addition of propylamine, triggered by a selective metal-assisted phenol deprotonation. Moreover, the presence of phenol groups enables intra-cavity binding of anions, provided their structure allows for simultaneous stabilization through hydrogen bonding. Finally, differences in the accessibility of the third coordination sphere between the two complexes influenced their affinity for long linear anions. These findings underscore a delicate balance between coordination-driven recognition, hydrogen bonding, and acid-base chemistry in such systems. The work expands the understanding of first, second and third coordination sphere effects in metallo-receptors and demonstrates how subtle structural modifications can modulate binding modes. It also suggests new directions for designing responsive host systems capable of switching behavior under mild stimuli.

The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a pivotal role in cancer progression, though the molecular regulators governing its immunosuppressive properties remain incompletely characterized. In this study, we identify Makorin-2 (MKRN2) as a novel modulator of TME remodeling through integrated analyses of genetically engineered mouse models and human clinical data. Utilizing MKRN2 knockout mice, we observed significantly accelerated tumor growth compared to wild-type control, which was associated with profound alterations in immune cell composition, especially M2 macrophages.

This study examines China's national standard development from 2001 to 2023. Using machine splitting and location assignment technology, the Dagum Gini coefficient and its decomposition methods, and traditional and spatial Markov chain estimation methods, we identify the spatiotemporal disparities and dynamic transition characteristics of the contribution levels to national standard development across China's eight comprehensive economic zones. This article addresses the fixed-time leaderless cluster synchronization of spatiotemporal community networks (SCNs) characterized by nonidentical node dynamics and reaction-diffusion feature. First, a signed SCN with reaction-diffusion effect is formulated, where the sign-based coupling is introduced to capture the dynamics of coopetition interactions among different communities. Second, to ensure the invariance of the synchronous manifold, an improved interdegree balance condition is proposed as a prerequisite for achieving cluster synchronization of the community network.

Purpose: The objective of the study was to evaluate the accuracy of femoral tunnel positioning in the reconstruction of the anteromedial (AM) bundle of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) using the most proximal and posterior portion of the lateral femoral condyle cartilage (Point C).
