We compared the effectiveness of encoding techniques in learning a character-based language. During an encoding phase, participants naive to Korean were shown 40 English-Korean word pairs in Experiment 1 (80 in Experiment 2) and asked to either repeat aloud (produce) the Korean pronunciation or copy the image of the Korean character. Recognition was later assessed in two ways: On an auditory test, participants selected the correct pairing from two audio clips of Korean words, and on a visual test, they selected the correct pairing from among two visually presented Korean characters. In both experiments, copying Korean characters led to higher performance overall. Notably, we also found an interaction such that memory was higher on the auditory test when encoding required production and better on the visual test when encoding required copying. Results suggest that matching the encoding and retrieval test modality maximizes performance. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved).

African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a large DNA virus that causes a highly lethal disease in pigs and currently has no effective vaccines or antiviral treatments available. We designed a protein switch that combines the DNase domain of colicin E9 (DNase E9) and its inhibitor Im9 with the viral protease cleavage site. The complex is only destroyed in the presence of an ASFV pS273R protease, which releases DNase activity.

DNA-encoded libraries have become widely used in drug discovery, and several different setups to link chemical compounds to DNA have been employed in the field, including single-stranded and double-stranded DNA tags as well as a variety of linker chemistries. In our previous study, we observed distinct differences in binding affinities between ligands coupled either to single-stranded or double-stranded DNA; however, the molecular basis for these differences remained unclear. Here, we present a native ion mobility mass spectrometry approach that incorporates gas- and solution-phase activation techniques to systematically investigate these differences, specifically the impact of DNA tags on binding performance in protein-ligand interactions.

Sentence-level semantics plays a key role in language understanding. There exist subtle relations and dependencies among sentence-level samples, which is to be exploited. For example, in relational triple extraction, existing models overemphasize extraction modules, ignoring the sentence-level semantics and relation information, which causes (1) the semantics fed to extraction modules is relation-unaware; (2) each sample is trained individually without considering inter-sample dependency.

Agonist-induced interaction of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with β-arrestins (βarrs) is a critical mechanism that regulates the spatiotemporal pattern of receptor localization and signaling. While the underlying mechanism governing GPCR-βarr interaction is primarily conserved and involves receptor activation and phosphorylation, there are several examples of receptor-specific fine-tuning of βarr-mediated functional outcomes. Considering the key contribution of conformational plasticity of βarrs in driving receptor-specific functional responses, it is important to develop novel sensors capable of reporting distinct βarr conformations in cellular context.
