Article Abstract

Background And Objectives: serological reactions due to antibodies in the presence of certain chemicals are rare occurrences. Although such antibodies are often considered harmless, their innocuous nature requires verification. We investigated a pan-agglutinating antibody that reacted in the presence of BLISS used in the gel card device.

Materials And Methods: The gel cards used for serological compatibility tests were of commercial sources (Ortho Diagnostics, USA and Tulip Diagnostics, India), soluble antigens used for antibody neutralization tests were locally obtained, and certain antibiotics and dialysis bags were procured from the local market. Serological workup was carried out by standard methods.

Results: A 13-year-old female cancer patient with a pan-reacting autoantibody showed mixed-field agglutination in serological tests. It reacted only on a gel card system that uses BLISS-containing antibiotic co-trimoxazole. Autoantibody was identified as anti-Sd by hemagglutination inhibition test using guinea pig urine.

Conclusion: The autoantibody with anti-Sd specificity was detected on the gel card only in the presence of the antibiotic co-trimoxazole in BLISS.

Evaluation of Awareness of Photosensitivity Risk and Additional Risk Minimisation Measures for Ketoprofen Gel in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Drugs Real World Outcomes

September 2025

Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP), DG Post Authorisation, Avenue Galilée 5/03, 1210, Brussels, Belgium.

Background: Topical ketoprofen gel (Fastum gel) is used for the treatment of rheumatic and traumatic musculoskeletal pain. Following reports of photosensitivity reactions, additional risk minimisation measures have been implemented in Europe to inform healthcare professionals (HCPs) and patients about this risk.

Objective: The main objectives of our survey were to assess both HCPs' awareness of the risk of photosensitivity associated with Fastum gel and their opinion on the usefulness of an annual direct healthcare professional communication (DHPC) in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Background: The aim was to investigate the serotype characteristics and molecular mechanism of anti-e like antibody production in individuals with RhDCCee phenotype from a patient with PTR.

Methods: ABO, RhD, and RhCcEe blood groups were identified by micro-column gel card, the irregular antibody screening and antibody specificity were identified by anti-human globulin assay. RHD and RHCE genes were typed by PCR-SSP, RHD/RHCE sequences were analyzed by first generation and third generation full-length sequencing.

Homologous blood transfusion (HBT) is used illicitly by some athletes to increase red blood cell (RBC) mass. The cytofluorometric techinique detects HBT by distinguishing between two different RBC populations. Although effective, this method is costly and time-consuming.

Serological profiling and molecular characterization of D variants in Chengdu blood donors.

Transfus Clin Biol

August 2025

Blood Grouping Reference Laboratory, Chengdu Blood Center, Sichuan, China. Electronic address:

Background: Some D variant individuals are at risk of developing anti-D immunization when exposed to RhD-positive red cells. Therefore, accurate typing of D variants is essential to ensure the safety of clinical blood transfusion practices. The aim of this study was to investigate the serological profiles and molecular characteristics of D variants among Chengdu blood donors and to establish a more cost-effective RHD genotyping strategy tailored for the Chinese population.
