Optically active higher-ordered structures, such as one-handed helical and propeller-shaped structures, can be constructed by folding the π-conjugated system using [2.2]paracyclophane as the chiral crossing unit, leading to circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) properties. Chiral cyclic dimers and trimers were synthesized using planar chiral [2.2]paracyclophane-containing enantiopure ribbon-shaped compounds as the chiral monomers. Unicursal π-conjugated systems were folded at the [2.2]paracyclophane units, and exhibited good photoluminescence quantum efficiencies and CPL anisotropy factors. Opposite chiroptical properties were observed between the dimer and trimer, despite the same absolute configuration of the planar chiral [2.2]paracyclophane units, which was reproduced by theoretical studies.

A CoO/AgMoO/CeOternary nanocomposites photocatalyst was successfully synthesized through a straightforward ethanol-assisted chemical method. Comprehensive characterization of its structural and optical properties was conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS), and photoluminescence (PL) analysis. XRD analysis confirmed the presence of CoO, AgMoO and CeO in the ternary composite sample.

Lucilia sericata (Meigen, 1826) maggot excretions/secretions (ES) have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and wound healing potential on corneal epithelial cells. This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial potential of the ES against clinically relevant Gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Gram-positive Staphylococcus epidermidis in the presence of human tear fluid. The ES was collected from sterile first- and second-instar L.

Active metasurfaces incorporating electro-optic materials enable high-speed free-space optical modulators that show great promise for a wide range of applications, including optical communication, sensing and computing. However, the limited light-matter interaction lengths in metasurfaces typically require high driving voltages exceeding tens of volts to achieve satisfactory modulation. Here we present low-voltage, high-speed free-space optical modulators based on silicon-organic-hybrid metasurfaces with dimerized-grating-based nanostructures.

Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), a mitochondrial disorder marked by central vision loss, exhibits incomplete penetrance and male predominance. Since there are no adequate models for understanding the rapid vision loss associated with LHON, we generated induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from LHON patients carrying the pathogenic m.3635G > A mutation and differentiated them into retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells.

Insight problem solving involves overcoming an impasse when a solution seems unreachable, often experienced as an 'Aha!' moment. In such solving, shifting from an incorrect representation imposed by constraints to a correct representation through constraint relaxation is critical. Prior research compared brain activity when constraint relaxation and representation change occurred versus when they did not occur, but neural activity before and after such changes within trials has remained underexplored.
