Article Abstract

Aphelenchoides besseyi, the causal agent of the white-tip disease, is a quarantine nematode known to affect rice (Oryza sativa) by colonising leaf tips and panicles. In January 2021, A. besseyi was detected in Portugal in imported Italian rice seeds (cv. Ariete). Although the contaminated lot was intercepted, subsequent detections in 2022 and 2024 revealed the presence of the nematode in the three main rice-producing regions of Portugal: the Sado, Mondego, and Tagus basins. Morphological and morphometric analyses, supported by molecular characterisation using rDNA (18S, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2, and 28S) and mitochondrial (COI) markers, confirmed the identity of the nematodes. Phylogenetic analyses further corroborated these identifications, with sequences showing 98.78-100% similarity to known A. besseyi isolates. Pathogenicity tests conducted on rice seedlings (cv. Nipponbare) confirmed the capacity of the isolates to induce typical white-tip symptoms. This study provides the first confirmed report of A. besseyi in Portuguese rice fields and highlights the role of international seed trade in the dissemination of regulated pests. In response, phytosanitary surveillance and containment measures have been enforced under the national rice seed monitoring programme. Although follow-up surveys have yielded negative results, suggesting a restricted distribution of A. besseyi, continued surveillance is essential to prevent future introductions.

Background: Interprofessional Education (IPE) is widely recognized as essential for fostering collaborative healthcare practices and improving patient outcomes. Despite its acknowledged importance, there remains a notable scarcity of longitudinal research assessing medical students' readiness for IPE across distinct educational stages, particularly within diverse global contexts like Brazil.

Aim: This study sought to address this gap by longitudinally mapping and analyzing the evolution of medical students' readiness for interprofessional learning throughout their academic training at a Brazilian university.

sp. nov. and sp. nov., isolated from forest soil in Ireland.

School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science, Conway Institute, University College Dublin, Belfield, Dublin 4, Ireland.

Two yeast strains, PYCC 10015 and PYCC 10016, were isolated from soil from an Irish forest. Sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) of the rRNA gene repeat, and the D1/D2 domain of the LSU rRNA gene, showed that they belong to the and genera of the order , but they did not exactly match any known species.

Purpose: This systematic review provides a critical evaluation, synthesis of the existing literature on isotretinoin's effects on craniomaxillofacial bone.

Methods: Following the PRISMA guidelines and registered in PROSPERO, the review was conducted in August 2024 across various databases. Eligible in vivo studies were analysed for their assessment of isotretinoin's effects on craniomaxillofacial bone.

Background: Previous results from this phase 3 trial showed that progression-free survival among participants with previously untreated (epidermal growth factor receptor)-mutated advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was significantly improved with amivantamab-lazertinib as compared with osimertinib. Results of the protocol-specified final overall survival analysis in this trial have not been reported.

Methods: We randomly assigned, in a 2:2:1 ratio, participants with previously untreated -mutated (exon 19 deletion or L858R substitution), locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC to receive amivantamab-lazertinib, osimertinib, or lazertinib.

Purpose: To assess differences in intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation prediction error (PE) considering the manufacturing tolerance or exact power (EP) versus labeled power (LP), and to compare accuracy using the Barrett formula with optimized constant versus a thick-lens formula.

Methods: The PE and absolute PE were calculated for a random eye of patients implanted with the multifocal Liberty Q-Flex 640PM IOL (Medicontur Ltd) considering the LP and the EP provided by the manufacturer. The outcomes for the Barrett with optimized constant formula and a thick-lens formula personalized for the surgeon, biometer, and IOL were compared.
