Introduction: Topiramate is widely used for migraine prevention but has pleiotropic effects on renal sodium reabsorption and inflammation. Whether these effects could be associated with lower risk of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and cardiovascular outcomes is unknown.

Methods: Among 1,745,580 patients with a diagnosis of migraine, the risk of ESKD, cardiovascular outcomes, and death was assessed after propensity matching in patients treated with topiramate versus untreated patients.

Besides its traditional uses for epilepsy/migraine, topiramate has demonstrated remarkable antioxidant and anti-apoptotic features. In this study, we investigated the potential role of topiramate in mitigating cadmium-induced nephrotoxicity in rats, focusing on oxidative stress, apoptosis, and autophagy. Twenty-four male Wistar rats were randomly allocated into control, topiramate, cadmium, and cadmium + topiramate groups.

Background/objectives: Obesity treatment can produce variable outcomes for different individuals. The aim of this analysis in adolescents with obesity was to investigate if baseline participant characteristics associated with BMI reduction from baseline to 56 weeks when treated with mid- or top-dose phentermine/topiramate (PHEN/TPM) compared to placebo.

Methods: A secondary analysis of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, clinical trial evaluating PHEN/TPM in adolescents with obesity was conducted.

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mansoura University, Mansoura, Egypt.

Background: Topiramate (TPM) is commonly used for migraine prophylaxis; nonetheless, it is linked to nephrotoxicity, which mostly results from oxidative stress and inflammatory mechanisms.

Aim: This study aimed to assess the preventive effects of gallic acid (GA) and furosemide (Lasix) against renal damage caused by TPM in rats.

Methods: Sixty male albino rats were categorized into six groups: control, TPM-only, TPM + Lasix, Lasix-only, TPM + GA, and GA-only.
