Preterm prelabour rupture of the membranes precedes around 30% of spontaneous preterm births. As well as its associations with complications of prematurity, it is additionally associated with pulmonary hypoplasia as well as increased rates of maternal sepsis and its sequelae. However, all stages of clinical management remain a challenge: from diagnosis, through to management and timing of delivery. This review discusses some of the major challenges clinicians face when caring for women with preterm prelabour rupture of the membranes.

Research suggests that women with HPV, precancerous disease, and prior invasive treatments are at increased risk of preterm birth. Objective: Fetoscopic repair for open neural tube defects (ONTDs) has gained acceptance among leading groups, although it remains controversial owing to the lack of a standardized neurosurgical technique. In 2018, our group described a new fetoscopic two-layer procedure with an exteriorized uterus for ONTD reconstruction. This study aimed to report obstetric, surgical and perinatal outcomes for the first 50 cases since the implementation of this technique and to provide comparative data with open fetal surgery studies.
