False advertising is a long-term problem, but, with modern technology, it is now possible to create rapidly and inexpensively and widely distribute fake video, audio and written social media presentations attributed to people without their knowledge or permission. Such 'deepfake' videos and other promotional material, allegedly by healthcare and biomedical research experts, are increasingly being used, often encouraging the purchase of a product that is not scientifically validated, and with which the expert is not associated. We describe some of our recent experiences and suggest potential actions.

Background: Accurate measurement of echocardiographic parameters is crucial for the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and tracking of change over time; however, manual assessment requires time-consuming effort and can be imprecise. Artificial intelligence has the potential to reduce clinician burden by automating the time-intensive task of comprehensive measurement of echocardiographic parameters.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop and validate open-sourced deep learning semantic segmentation models for the automated measurement of 18 anatomic and Doppler measurements in echocardiography.

The three-dimensional (3D) culture system has emerged as an indispensable platform for modulating stem cell function in biomedicine, drug screening, and cell therapy. Despite a few studies confirming the functionality of 3D culture, the molecular factors underlying this process remain obscure. Here, we have utilized a hanging drop method to generate 3D spheroid-derived mesenchymal stem cells (3D MSCs) and compared them to conventionally 2D-cultured MSCs.

Introduction: Hallux valgus (HV) is a common foot deformity characterized by lateral deviation of the great toe. Despite known associations with gender, age, and footwear, the prevalence of HV and its associated risk factors in Japan remain unclear. We conducted the first-ever prospective population-based cohort study (HAPPI study) in Japan to elucidate the prevalence of HV and identify its associated risk factors.

This systematic review examines the prognostic value of baseline optical coherence tomography (OCT) biomarkers in predicting visual acuity (VA) outcomes for eyes with macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusions (RVO) treated with anti-VEGF therapies, steroids, laser photocoagulation, or combination treatments. VA predictions at 6, 12, and 24 months post-treatment were assessed using a narrative synthesis approach and vote counting based on effect direction relative to a minimal clinically important difference. Certainty of evidence was evaluated using GRADE guidelines.

Background: The optimal treatment strategy in early psoriatic arthritis remains unknown. We aimed to assess whether the combination of methotrexate and golimumab plus corticosteroids is superior to methotrexate plus corticosteroids in reducing disease activity in early, untreated psoriatic arthritis.
Methods: We did a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, single-centre study in adults with treatment-naïve active psoriatic arthritis.
