Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is an inherited disease present in 1 in 500 individuals and is the most common cause of sudden cardiac death in children. We present the case of a 17-year-old boy with HCM and a primary prevention subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) who developed left ventricular outflow tract obstruction and a myocardial bridge of the left anterior descending coronary artery. The patient underwent a septal myectomy/myotomy and muscular bridge unroofing. The S-ICD system was undisturbed during the surgery, with no loss of function. Septal myectomy may be accomplished in pediatric HCM patients following optimal S-ICD placement with maintained S-ICD function.

This work aims to construct a functional titanium surface with spontaneous electrical stimulation for immune osteogenesis and antibacteria. A silver-calcium micro-galvanic cell was engineered on the titanium implant surface to spontaneously generate microcurrents for osteoimmunomodulation and bacteria killing, which provides a promising strategy for the design of a multifunctional electroactive titanium implant. Titanium-based implants are usually bioinert, which often leads to inflammation-induced loosening.

Aims: This study aimed to enhance the osteoinductive potential of mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs) by integrating them into a nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAp)-enriched hydrogel scaffold for bone regeneration applications.
Materials & Methods: EVs were isolated from naïve and osteogenically primed MSCs and characterized for morphology, cargo content, and cytocompatibility. Their uptake and osteoinductive activity were assessed using MC3T3 cells within a 3D interpenetrating network (IPN) hydrogel.

This study aimed to explore the experience and complications of cranioplasty (CP) with polyether ether ketone (PEEK) in pediatric and adolescent patients after decompressive craniectomy (DC). A total of 62 children (aged <18 years) with cranial bone defects due to DC underwent CP with a custom-made PEEK at our department between January 2018 and April 2023. The clinical characteristics, radiological features, surgical conditions, postoperative complications, and follow-up results of these patients were analyzed retrospectively.

The development of continuous-release devices or injectables for the long-term delivery of biologics is of great interest, especially monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) that require frequent, high-dose injections. Preclinical testing of these technologies in murine models is necessary for clinical translation; however, xenogeneic responses to the mAb and foreign body responses to the implants or injectables can confound results. Immune system knockout (KO) models that affect immune cells are often used in these experiments, but the effects of KO models on mAb pharmacokinetics (PK) are not well characterized.
