Article Abstract

Landau-damped oscillations in collisionless plasmas, described by van Kampen and Case, are quasimodes, representing a continuous superposition of singular eigenfunctions, not true eigenmodes. Recent work by Ng et al. shows that even rare collisions replace these singular modes with discrete regular modes having complex eigenvalues for the phase velocity (or frequency), approaching Landau eigenvalues in the collisionless limit. We analytically derive approximate expressions for the eigenvalue correction due to rare collisions and for the shape of the eigenfunction describing distribution function perturbations in velocity space, demonstrating its increasing oscillations in the resonance region as the collision frequency tends to zero. We also obtain approximate expressions for the resonance region's width and peak value, and the oscillation period within it. We validate these analytical results with high-precision numerical calculations using a standard linear matrix eigenvalue problem approach.

The Manglai uranium deposit is located in the Tabei Sag within the Manit Depression, centrally positioned in the eastern Erlian Basin at the core of an ancient valley uranium metallogenic belt. This study analyzed the geochemical properties of 22 clastic and mudstone samples from the Lower Cretaceous Saihan Formation in the Manglai deposit to assess its tectonic setting, provenance direction, redox conditions, and paleoclimatic environment. Key findings reveal that (1) The primary sediment source of the Saihan Formation in the Manglai deposit consists of felsic igneous rocks, situated mainly in a passive continental margin setting.

Introduction: Acetabular fractures typically involve disruption of cortical columns or walls and are well-classified by Judet, Letournel, and AO/OTA systems. However, some injuries involve pure osteochondral impaction of the articular surface without cortical involvement, making them difficult to detect and unclassified by current systems. This study identifies and evaluates a rare, previously undescribed acetabular injury pattern-posterior dome osteochondral impaction without cortical fracture.

Rationale: Collision tumors involving differentiated thyroid carcinomas are exceedingly rare, despite the overall high prevalence of thyroid cancer.

Patient Concerns: A 65-year-old man was incidentally diagnosed with thyroid cancer during a staging workup for gastric cancer.

Adrenal collision tumours (ACTs) are rare clinical entities denoting separate coexisting tumours involving adrenal glands. Here, we report the clinical, radiological and pathohistological presentation of a 49-year-old patient with an ACT composed of oncocytoma and pheochromocytoma. Following the initial diagnostic procedure guided by suspicion of pheochromocytoma, the patient has undergone surgery, recovered well and has been followed since.
