Eyelid Ulcer in an Immunocompromised Patient.

Case Rep Ophthalmol

June 2025

Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI, USA.

Introduction: Eyelid ulceration can result from malignancy, trauma, infection, or inflammation. Immunosuppressed patients, such as those on methotrexate (MTX) therapy, are at higher risk for opportunistic infections like and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated mucocutaneous ulcers (EBVMCU). We report a rare case of eyelid ulceration due to concurrent EBVMCU and infection.

Background And Objectives: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a common herpesvirus among pediatric liver transplant recipients, but it can have serious complications, such as post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease. EBV is hypothesized to influence tacrolimus concentrations by increasing inflammatory cytokines that regulate the expression of cytochrome-P-450 enzymes involved in tacrolimus pharmacokinetics. This study aims to examine the association between EBV serostatus and viral load, and tacrolimus trough concentrations corrected for the dose and recipient weight [weight-adjusted concentration-to-dose (C/D) ratios].

A case report: spleen Epstein-Barr virus-positive inflammatory follicular dendritic cell sarcoma.

J Gastrointest Oncol

December 2024

Department of Radiology, Zhuhai Clinical Medical College of Jinan University (Zhuhai People's Hospital, The Affiliated Hospital of Beijing Institute of Technology), Jinan University, Zhuhai, China.

Background: Epstein-Barr virus-positive (EBV) inflammatory follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (IFDCS) is a rare stroma-derived neoplasm of lymphoid tissues. It typically involves the spleen and liver, and is often associated with the presence of EBV. Because of its nonspecific clinical and imaging findings, making a correct diagnosis at the time of initial diagnosis is challenging.

Background Membranous tonsillitis is one of the most common forms of acute tonsillitis in childhood. Although many different microorganisms may cause this disease, clinicians generally consider bacterial agents as a possible cause and prescribe a penicillin-group of antibiotic. This study aimed to determine the aetiology of membranous tonsillitis and prescribing errors.
