Meiotic crossovers promote correct chromosome segregation and the shuffling of genetic diversity. However, the measurement of crossovers remains challenging, impeding our ability to decipher the molecular mechanisms that are necessary for their formation and regulation. Here we demonstrate a novel repurposing of the single-nucleus Assay for Transposase Accessible Chromatin with sequencing (snATAC-seq) as a simple and high-throughput method to identify and characterize meiotic crossovers from haploid testis nuclei.

The speech and language rehabilitation are essential to people who have disorders of communication that may occur due to the condition of neurological disorder, developmental delays, or bodily disabilities. With the advent of deep learning, we introduce an improved multimodal rehabilitation pipeline that incorporates audio, video, and text information in order to provide patient-tailored therapy that adapts to the patient. The technique uses a cross-attention fusion multimodal hierarchical transformer architectural model that allows it to jointly design speech acoustics as well as the facial dynamics, lip articulation, and linguistic context.

Importance: Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly being explored in clinical decision-making, but few studies have evaluated their performance on complex ophthalmology cases from clinical practice settings. Understanding whether open-weight, reasoning-enhanced LLMs can outperform proprietary models has implications for clinical utility and accessibility.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy, management decision-making, and cost of DeepSeek-R1 vs OpenAI o1 across diverse ophthalmic subspecialties.

Scnanoseq: an nf-core pipeline for oxford nanopore single-cell RNA-sequencing.

Bioinformatics

September 2025

Institutional Research Core Program-Biological Data Science Core, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL United States.

Motivation: Recent advancements in long-read single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) have facilitated the quantification of full-length transcripts and isoforms at the single-cell level. Historically, long-read data would need to be complemented with short-read single-cell data in order to overcome the higher sequencing errors to correctly identify cellular barcodes and unique molecular identifiers. Improvements in Oxford Nanopore sequencing, and development of novel computational methods have removed this requirement.

A Metrics-Driven Approach to Develop a Hybrid Model of Staffing and Workload Balance in the NGHA Hospitals.

J Healthc Leadersh

August 2025

Department of Medical Equipment Technology, College of Applied Medical Science, Majmaah University, Majmaah, 11952, Saudi Arabia.

Introduction: Clinical Engineering Departments (CEDs) face growing challenges in managing rapidly evolving medical technologies and increasing equipment inventories under constrained budgets and limited human resources. These pressures often result in strained staffing capacity and imbalanced workload distribution. This study aimed to develop and validate a metrics-driven hybrid staffing model to optimize workforce allocation and improve workload efficiency across National Guard Health Affairs (NGHA) hospitals in Saudi Arabia.
