Clinical mastitis in small ruminants is usually seen with an incidence of less than 5% and most cases, especially with hyperacute evolution, are not referred for hospital care. During the 5-year survey, 16 goats and 7 sheep, totaling 23 small ruminants, met the inclusion criteria with a definitive diagnosis of clinical mastitis. Clinical signs ranged greatly among cases, varying from septic state in hyperacute cases, and enlarged, pendulous udder associated with chronic pain and abnormal gait in chronic cases. Microbiological culture revealed a wide array of bacterial pathogens, including , , spp., and spp. In vitro antimicrobial susceptibility profiles varied greatly among bacteria isolates, ranging from sensitive to all tested antimicrobials to a multi-resistant profile. Pathological features included hyperemia and dark red areas of necrosis in the skin, marked hyperemia of the affected gland at the cut surface, lactiferous ducts and gland cisterns filled by cloudy or suppurative fluid, abscesses, and hardness of the mammary gland parenchyma. This retrospective study highlights the multifactorial nature and clinical variability of mastitis in small ruminants, demonstrating its significant impact on animal health, welfare, and production.

Aim: To investigate the effects and mechanisms of S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) from deer antler on improving depression-like behaviors in chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) mice.
Methods: The CUMS method was used to establish a mouse depression model. The relationship between SAM and HIF-1α was analyzed by small molecule-protein docking and molecular dynamics simulation.
Small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLVs) are chronic and progressive diseases caused by retroviruses that pose a serious threat to family farming. This study aimed to determine the seroprevalence and risk factors associated with SRLV infection in goats from family farming properties in Alagoas, Northeastern Brazil. In the semiarid region of Alagoas, seventeen family farming properties were visited, distributed across eleven municipalities.

Clinical microbiology involves the detection and differentiation of primarily bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi in patients with infections. Billions of people may be colonised by one or more species of common luminal intestinal parasitic protists (CLIPPs) that are often detected in clinical microbiology laboratories; still, our knowledge on these organisms' impact on global health is very limited. The genera Blastocystis, Dientamoeba, Entamoeba, Endolimax and Iodamoeba comprise CLIPPs species, the life cycles of which, as opposed to single-celled pathogenic intestinal parasites (e.

Accurate estimation of individual feed intake is essential for calculating feed efficiency, planning diets, monitoring cow herds, and managing grazing cows. This study aimed to evaluate the performance and applicability of estimation equations developed to predict pasture herbage DMI (PHDMI) in dairy cows using behavioral traits recorded and scored by the RumiWatch system. The study had 4 primary objectives: (1) to compare the behavioral characteristic outputs of 2 versions of the RumiWatch converter (0.

This technical note describes a small ruminant respiration chamber system designed to accurately quantify the production of carbon dioxide (CO) and methane (CH). The system consists of 3 open-circuit respiration chambers, flow meters, gas analyzers, and an accessible environmental control system. To validate its performance, gas recovery tests were conducted by injecting CO and CH at 4 constant flow rates: 0.
