Article Abstract

High-power laser diodes (HPLDs) are increasingly used in space applications, yet solder layer (SL) reliability critically limits their performance and lifespan. This study employs finite element analysis to evaluate SL failure mechanisms in microchannel-cooled HPLDs with two packaging configurations under thermal cycling and vibration. Based on the Anand constitutive model, contour plot analysis revealed that the critical stress-strain regions in both SLs were located at their edges. The stress-strain values along the X-axis of the SLs exceeded those in other axial directions, and SL failure would preferentially initiate from the edges along the cavity length direction. During random vibration analysis with excitation applied along the Z-axis, the equivalent stresses in both SLs exceeded X-/Y-axis levels. However, these values remained far below their yield strengths, indicating that only elastic strain and high-cycle fatigue occurred in the SLs. The calculated thermal fatigue lives of the two SLs were 2851 cycles and 5730 cycles, respectively. Their random vibration fatigue lives were determined as 5.75 × 10 h and 8.31 × 10 h. Using damage superposition under combined thermal-vibration loading, the total fatigue lives were predicted as 14,821 h and 29,786 h, respectively, with thermal cycling-induced damage dominating the failure mechanism.

Is every pancreatic cancer patient a palliative care patient?

ancreatic cancer is an aggressive disease and often presents at an advanced stage with no curative options. The disease is often characterized by rapid progression, limited or short-lived responsiveness to standard therapies, and a profound impact on patients' quality of life. Despite advances in targeted therapies and immunotherapy, curative outcomes remain elusive for the majority of patients with advanced or high-grade disease with a 5-year survival rate of less than 10%.

Introduction: Cognitive frailty (CF), which typically precedes dementia and functional decline, serves as a more robust predictor of adverse health outcomes compared to physical frailty alone, representing a critical challenge in promoting healthy aging among older people living with HIV (PLWH) aged ≥ 50 years. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of cognitive frailty and identify its associated factors among PLWH aged ≥ 50 years.

Methods: A convenience sample of 344 PLWH ≥ 50 years was recruited from a tertiary Grade A hospital in Zunyi, China.

Background: Post-viral syndromes, including long- and post-COVID, often lead to persistent symptoms such as fatigue and dyspnoea, affecting patients' daily lives and ability to work. The COVI-Care M-V trial examines whether interprofessional, patient-centred teleconsultations, initiated by general practitioners in cooperation with specialists, can help reduce symptom burden and improve care for patients.

Methods: To evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention under routine care conditions, a cluster-randomised controlled trial is being conducted.

The Effect of Positive Psychotherapy on Pain Perception, Daily Functioning, and Mental Health in Patients With Fibromyalgia.

Pain Manag Nurs

September 2025

Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Duzce University, Duzce, Türkiye. Electronic address:

Background: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a complex chronic pain syndrome disorder characterized by several symptoms, including widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, cognitive dysfunction, and mood disorders, with an unknown etiology, and unclear pathophysiology.

Purpose: In this study, a Positive Psychotherapy Program for Patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome was developed to change the pain perception of patients with fibromyalgia syndrome, optimize their activities of daily living, and improve their mental state, and the effectiveness of the program was confirmed.

Design: We employed a randomized controlled design in this investigation, utilizing a pretest (at baseline), posttest (at the end of the ten-week intervention), and follow-up (in the third month) approach.

As the number of older people living with HIV (PLWH) continues to grow, many experience a high symptom burden that negatively affects quality of life. Identifying symptom subgroups can help inform targeted interventions. Our study explored symptom patterns among older PLWH and their associations with self-rated health.
