This work presents novel rhodamine hybrids with -quinone methide groups as ion-sensing probes. The probes, and , exist in both open and closed ring conformations, making them promising candidates for sensors due to their distinct absorption and fluorescence properties. Fluorescence studies demonstrated that acts as a "turn-on" sensor for Hg-(II) in water, while responds similarly to Al-(III) in water-methanol solutions. The detection limits (LODs) were determined to be 389 nM for Hg-(II) and 857 nM for Al-(III). In addition, the probes exhibit "turn-off" responses to cyanide and glutathione in the presence of Al-(III) and Hg-(II), with LODs of 680 nM and 1.21 μM, respectively. By visually inspecting colorimetric changes in filter paper and water samples, we also looked into the feasibility of these probes in real-world settings. Overall, this work demonstrates the suitability of probes for the detection of mercury and aluminum in water samples from natural environments.

Over 1200 heavy feedlot cattle presented with severe tongue lesions during a 7-month interval. Review of the literature and discussions with colleagues revealed previous similar outbreaks had occurred in Canada and the USA, with extensive investigations conducted and no cause identified. In the current outbreak, examination of the environment, feed, water, cattle behavior, and husbandry systems were conducted, as well as diagnostic testing including necropsy, histopathology, bacteriology, virology, and toxicology.

This experiment evaluated the effects of supplementing yeast culture ( ) on in situ ruminal degradability, rumen fermentation and microbiota responses of heifers consuming a forage-based diet. Twelve ruminally-cannulated Angus-influenced heifers were ranked by body weight ( 180 ± 4 kg) and assigned to 4 groups of 3 heifers each. Groups were enrolled in a replicated 3 × 3 Latin square design containing 3 periods of 21 d and 14-d washout intervals.

In this study, the systematic investigation focused on how varying power levels of ultrasonic (US) pretreatment, when integrated with electrohydrodynamic (EHD) drying, influence the physicochemical properties of yam. Yam samples were subjected to ultrasonic pretreatment at 30 °C for 30 min using power levels of 0 W (Control), 150 W, 180 W, 210 W, 240 W, and 270 W, respectively, followed by drying in an EHD system. During the drying process, a range of metrics were measured, including moisture content, average drying rate, color change, as well as rehydration capacity.
