In the present study, we synthesized fluorocarbon-coated cobalt ferrite (CoFeO) magnetic nanoparticles using alkoxysilanes such as trimethoxy(3,3,3-trifluoropropyl)silane (TFPTMS), trimethoxy(1H,1H,2H,2H-nonafluorohexyl)silane (NFHTMS), and triethoxy(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyl)silane (PFDTES). The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by various techniques, including X-ray diffractometry (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM/HRTEM/EDXS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), specific surface area measurements (BET), and magnetometry (VSM). To understand their surface characteristics, contact angle (CA) measurements were carried out, providing valuable insights into their hydrophobic properties. Among the samples of CoFeO coated with fluoroalkoxysilanes, those with PFDTES surface coating had the highest water contact angle of 159.2°, indicating their superhydrophobic character. The potential of the prepared fluoroalkoxysilane-coated CoFeO nanoparticles for the removal of waste low-SAPS synthetic engine oil from a model aqueous solution was evaluated based on three key parameters: adsorption efficiency (%), adsorption capacity (mg/g), and desorption efficiency (%). All synthesized CoFeO samples coated with fluoroalkoxysilane showed high oil adsorption efficiency, ranging from 87% to 98%. The average oil adsorption capacity for the samples was as follows: F-SiO@CoFeO (3.1 g of oil/g of adsorbent) > F-SiO@CoFeO (2.7 g of oil/g of adsorbent) > F-SiO@CoFeO (1.5 g of oil/g of adsorbent) as a result of increasing oleophobicity with increasing fluorocarbon chain length. The desorption results, which showed 77-97% oil recovery, highlighted the possibility of reusing the adsorbents in multiple adsorption/desorption cycles.

Mexico harvests 30% of the world's avocados and its by-products, particularly the peel, is a major source of bioactive compounds such as dietary fiber (DF). The objective was to characterize the DF of 'Hass' avocado peel and associated bioactive compounds for application in gluten-free hot cakes flours. DF was extracted using two methods (alkaline (AM) and ultrasound-assisted (UM) with yields ranging from 72 to 83%.

Due to the growing concerns over the sustainability of traditional protein sources, edible insects such as Tenebrio molitor (T. molitor) are gaining attention as promising alternatives, offering high nutritional value and a lower environmental footprint. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of pre-treatment processes on the quality of T.

Cowpea, an underutilized and nutritive alternative plant protein source, offers a potential solution to climate change and population growth, but still requires extensive research. This study aimed to comprehensively assess the properties and techno-functional responses of cowpea protein concentrate (CPC) under various pH conditions in an integrated way, with a particular emphasis on the CPC's application potential. CPC was extracted and analyzed in both powdered and solution forms, the former under different pH conditions.

The aim of this research was to characterize the structure, physicochemical properties and anti-complement activities of two strawberry fruit polysaccharides (DSFP-500 and DSFP-700) obtained by ultrasonic degradation. The molecular weight () of DSFP-500 was 809 kDa and the of DSFP-700 was 791 kDa, obviously lower than the 9479 kDa weight of the native polysaccharide (PSP). DSFP-500 and DSFP-700 were both composed of the same monosaccharides (Man, Rha, Gal, Glc, Gal and Ara) but the molar ratios were different.
