Article Abstract

This case series describes the use of cortical allografts, cancellous allografts with and without recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor-BB, and titanium locking plates for repair of critical-sized defects in 4 mandibles from 3 canine patients. Two mandibles were repaired after oncologic surgery and 2 mandibles were reconstructed due to chronic nonunion fractures. Various techniques were utilized for maintenance of the occlusion intraoperatively. All patients that received postoperative imaging showed evidence of integration of the allograft with the host bone, demonstrating the validity of this technique as a method of repair for mandibular critical-sized defects in dogs.

Cuboid fractures are relatively rare injuries to the midfoot that commonly occur simultaneously with additional fractures and disruptions to different articular surfaces. Due to the cuboid's large articular surface and contribution to the maintenance of lateral column stability, treatment of cuboid fractures can be difficult and manifest with a variety of post-operative complications. Although simple cuboid fractures can be managed conservatively, at this time, there is no standard operative approach for displaced cuboid fractures.

The aim of this retrospective study was to assess the change in the alveolar bone height following sinus augmentation surgery utilising a combination of right anterior iliac crest bone marrow aspirates and allogeneic cancellous bone, as observed through cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). A total of 46 patients who underwent CBCT scans taken before and after sinus augmentation surgery were evaluated. The alveolar bone heights were compared over time.

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a common spinal deformity usually treated with a surgical procedure comprising spinal fusion. Solid fusion after such surgery is important for the overall success of the procedure, where graft selection is also a significant factor. Allografts are as effective as autografts in the adolescent patient population; however, a major limitation is their high cost.

Background: Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) is a challenging operation with high rates of loss of reduction, screw cut out, avascular necrosis, and subsequent unplanned reoperation. Augmentation of the repair with synthetic bone fillers and other alternatives has shown promise in decreasing adverse outcomes. Our aim is to report radiographic and clinical outcome of impaction grafting with cancellous allograft chips and injection of magnesium-based bone filler for ORIF augmentation of PHFs.
