This study investigates the population characteristics of the fiddler crab, , at two sites in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Monthly samples were collected from March 2024 to February 2025 in Dong Hai, Bac Lieu and Dam Doi, Ca Mau. Population parameters, including asymptotic carapace width (CW = 23.18 mm), growth rate ( = 0.68/year), longevity (approximately 4.41 years), total mortality (3.22/year), natural mortality (1.55/year), fishing mortality (1.69/year), exploitation rate (0.52/year), and carapace width at first capture (CW = 13.60 mm), were estimated. The results indicate that the population exhibits rapid growth, relatively short longevity, and is subject to significant fishing pressure; the exploitation rate was determined to be 0.52/year, which exceeds the value (0.401). The study also reveals two major annual recruitment peaks occurring at the beginning and end of the year. These findings provide critical baseline data for developing sustainable management strategies for this fiddler crab species, which are crucial for maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem health in the Mekong Delta.

Anthropogenic vibrational disturbances in the marine environment can affect benthic organisms, but these effects on marine animals remain poorly understood. To examine whether anthropogenic substrate-borne vibrations induce physiological stress in the white-clawed fiddler crab (), individuals were exposed to vibrations at 120 Hz and 250 Hz (~100 dB re 1 µm/s), and physiological indicators were measured. Lactate and ATP concentrations in the leg muscle were measured, and heat shock protein 70 kDa (HSP70) gene expression in the hepatopancreas was analyzed using RT-PCR with newly designed primers.

Marine heatwaves (MHWs) pose severe threats to coastal ecosystems. Fiddler crabs, key intertidal species in mangrove environments, are particularly vulnerable to MHWs in disturbed habitats, where vegetation degradation amplifies environmental stressors such as temperature and salinity. We conducted a biomarker-based assessment of the behavioral, physiological, and biochemical responses of fiddler crab species to MHWs in undisturbed and disturbed mangrove ecosystems.

The influence of antimicrobial agents on aquatic fauna has been described in many studies, but few have tested the effects on invertebrate embryos and the associated epibiotic community.
