Article Abstract

The mathematical models of drilling gas flow based on the continuous medium and pore-fracture dual media were established according to the law of mass conservation, aiming to derive a gas flow model in coal that better reflects field conditions. The physical model was then simplified, the computational grid and nodes were defined, and the finite difference method was employed for model discretization. Subsequently, VB programming was used to perform numerical calculations. The variation characteristics of the drilling gas emission rate and cumulative flow were obtained. Meanwhile, drilling gas flow was measured by connecting an orifice flowmeter and a high-precision gas meter in series to enhance measurement accuracy. The measured results were compared with the simulation results derived from both the continuous and dual media models. The findings indicate that the simulation results for both gas emission rate and cumulative flow based on the dual media model are more consistent with the measured data, whereas the continuous-medium exhibit significant deviations. Therefore, the dual media-based model demonstrates better agreement with the actual drilling gas flow process.

Naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) are present in waste generated during shale gas drilling activities and pose potential risks to the environment, drawing increasing public and scientific attention. In this study, soil, wastewater and effluent samples were collected across multiple operational stages of shale gas development in Southwest China. A combination of in-situ gamma absorbed dose rate in air, soil radon concentration, radionuclide activity concentrations, and conventional hazard indices was used to evaluate environmental radioactivity and potential occupational exposure.

Conventional acidizing struggles to remove complex, organic-rich scales in oil wells, and while strong organic solvents can help, their high cost and safety risks limit field use. To overcome these shortcomings, we developed a low-cost, safe permeability-enhanced-dispersion (PD) technique that first loosens and disperses the scale and then applies acid for thorough cleanup. The PD fluid (DL) contains a mutually soluble fatty alcohol amide phosphate dispersant (DL-F), ethanol, a surfactant blend, and a self-generating acid.

Currently, notable difficulties exist regarding the real-time uploading of data and fast logging in remote-detection acoustic logging, which can be mitigated via downhole data compression. This study systematically analyzed a wavelet transform-based data compression method and developed hardware platforms based on a digital signal processor (DSP) and field programmable gate array (FPGA). The wavelet transform-based acoustic-logging-data compression algorithm was executed on both the hardware platforms, and the corresponding decompression algorithm was implemented on the host computer.

The unconfined compressive strength of organic-rich clay shale is a fundamental parameter in geotechnical and energy applications, influencing drilling efficiency, wellbore stability, and excavation design. This study presents machine learning-based predictive models for unconfined compressive strength estimation, trained on a comprehensive dataset of 1217 samples that integrate non-destructive indicators such as ultrasonic pulse velocity, shale fabric metrics, wettability potential and destructive field-derived parameters. A dual-model framework was implemented using Support Vector Machine, Decision Tree, K-Nearest Neighbor, and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithms.

Northern Shaanxi's oil-gas drilling produces large amounts of waste drilling fluids with high-value solids (barite, bentonite). Traditional disposal causes resource waste and pollution. This study proposes a stepwise flotation process for typical local oil-based waste: surface cleaning to break oil film wrapping and combined reagents to regulate mineral surface hydrophobicity differences, enabling efficient separation and recovery of barite and bentonite.
