This study examines the theoretical and methodological limitations of migration research in understanding gender-specific trends of migration. In particular, theory-driven methods suffer from the gender blindness of migration theories, while data-driven methods suffer from the scarcity of gender disaggregated migration data. This research aims to evaluate how these dual limitations affect the accuracy of commonly used migration prediction models. By analyzing migration flows disaggregated by gender, the study compares the performance of deterministic methods and probabilistic gravity-type models in predicting migrant flows with varying gender compositions. The findings reveal significant differences in the predictive performance of gravity-type models based on the gender composition of migration flows. Drawing on migration theories and case studies, the study contextualizes these findings, concluding that the lack of robust theoretical frameworks and the limited availability of gender-specific migration data have critically undermined the accuracy of current prediction and forecasting methods. The implications of this research highlight the urgent need for a critical reassessment of migration theories and methodologies through the lens of gender biases, paving the way for more inclusive and accurate migration predictions.

Herein, we have developed a Brønsted acid catalyzed 1,5-migration of functional groups from indole-tethered ynamides to prepare a variety of 2-acyltryptamines in good to excellent yields with high site-selectivity at the C2-position of indoles. Mechanistic studies revealed that the reaction underwent an intramolecular cyclization, 1,2-migration of the vinyl group, and C-N bond cleavage by hydrolysis in a one pot. The reaction features broad substrate scope, good functional group compatibility, 1,5-migration of functional groups, C-N bond cleavage to form C-C bond, and diverse 2-acyltryptamine scaffolds.

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) is a cytokine involved in the immune-inflammatory response. The Tone River in Japan represents one of the southern limit distributions of chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) on the western side of the North Pacific, but the number of adult chum salmon observed here has declined dramatically since 2013 and reached zero in 2024. The factors behind the recent decline of the chum salmon population in the Tone River were investigated by using ocean reanalysis data and a 20-year particle-tracking simulation. Virtual chum salmon fry were released at the mouth of the Tone River in spring each year with six different swimming strategies to evaluate the effects of ocean currents on the population growth rate of salmon.
