We investigated eyes with pathological myopic (PM) with punctate inner choroidopathy (PIC), a rare inflammatory disease, and focused on the association between PIC lesions and lacquer cracks (LCs). We retrospectively reviewed 36 myopic eyes diagnosed with PIC from 2001 to 2020 and followed for at least 3 years. Clinical characteristics were compared between the PM and non-PM eyes and between the PIC lesions with/without a coincident LC course. Factors associated with the final best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and PIC lesion area also were investigated. PM eyes were significantly older (p = 0.0440), had higher refractive error (p < 0.0001), a greater increase in the number of PIC lesions (p < 0.0001), poorer final BCVA (p = 0.0010), and more macular atrophy (p = 0.0252) than non-PM eyes. There were significant differences between PIC lesions with/without coincident LCs in age (p = 0.0034), refractive error (p = 0.0072), presence of PM (p < 0.0001), baseline and final BCVA (p = 0.0294 and p = 0.0373, respectively), and PIC lesion area % change/year (p = 0.0076). The final BCVA was associated with macular atrophy (p = 0.0006); the PIC lesion area % change/year was associated with a change in the number of PIC lesions (p = 0.0130) and whether they coincided with the LC course (p = 0.0491). PIC in PM eyes has a poor prognosis and could be subtyped according to the relationship with LCs or not.

Purpose: To evaluate a minimum imaging set (MIS) to support ophthalmologists in diagnosing, monitoring disease activity, and identifying disease-specific complications for six types of noninfectious posterior uveitides (NIPU).
Design: Visual questionnaire answered live by a group of ophthalmologists.
Participants: International group of ophthalmologists, including uveitis experts, medical retina experts, general ophthalmologists, and ophthalmologists-in-training.

High-resolution nano-focus X-ray fluorescence microscopy using hard X-rays at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) IDB16 beamline detected endogenous barium, bromine, calcium, chlorine, copper, iron, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, rubidium, sulphur, selenium, strontium and zinc, at tissue, cellular and subcellular level in the outer retinal complex of light adapted, 3-week-old, male C57BL6 mice. Fresh snap-frozen (20 μm) cryosections dried at room temperature were scanned at 1 μm, 300 nm and 50 nm spatial resolution by incident X-ray photons from the synchrotron beam. Analysis of 2D maps and 3D surface plots by PyMCA and ImageJ revealed elevated zinc concentrations in the choriocapillaris (CC) (mean 45, range 28-77 ppm), retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) layer (mean 47, range 20-76 ppm), photoreceptor inner segments (RIS) ellipsoid zone, outer limiting membrane (OLM) (mean 32, range < 1-44 ppm) and outer nuclear layer (ONL) in between photoreceptor cell bodies.

Noninfectious uveitis syndromes are a heterogeneous group of disorders affecting the retina and choroid. Their etiology is unknown, but some follow a flu-like illness. Autoimmune pathogenesis has also been postulated.

Purpose: Punctate Inner Choroidopathy (PIC), a posterior uveitis primarily affecting females with myopia, was studied to evaluate CNV-free survival, CNV recurrence-free survival, and visual outcomes under different immunomodulatory treatment strategies.
Methods: This two-centre retrospective study included PIC patients treated at St Pauls Eye Unit, Liverpool or Manchester Royal Eye Hospital from 2009 to 2024 with at least 1 year follow-up. Recurrent CNV was defined as CNV reappearing after a quiescent period of at least 3 months without treatment.
