Article Abstract

Evidence from an increasing number of studies indicates that plant endophytic microorganisms play a significant role during biotic and abiotic stress resistance. To date, however, only a handful of studies on endophytes in response to the presence of phytoplasmas have been conducted. The production of jujube () is threatened by jujube witches' broom (JWB) disease, which is associated with the presence of the JWB phytoplasma ' Phytoplasma ziziphi'. To investigate the impact of jujube witches' broom phytoplasma on the endophyte populations in jujube, high-throughput sequencing was performed in healthy and JWB-infected orchard jujube trees and jujube shoots. The results showed that the presence of JWB phytoplasma in jujube altered the abundance, diversity, and community structure of endophytic bacteria and fungi. In the branches and the roots, the presence of JWB phytoplasma was associated with an increase in the richness of the endophytic communities and a decrease in their diversity, with the phyla Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Bacteroidota and the genus '. Phytoplasma' becoming the most abundant. The presence of phytoplasmas was also associated with the remodeling of the endophytic microorganisms' interaction network, shifting to a simpler biodiversity state. These results demonstrate the response of the jujube endophytic community to the presence of JWB phytoplasmas and shed light on the possible antagonistic agents that could be further evaluated for JWB disease biocontrol.

Background: People with HIV are at higher risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease than uninfected individuals; however, the molecular mechanisms behind this association remain elusive due to the lack of suitable animal models.

Methods: To study the impact of HIV on atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, we infected the atheroprone mice with the chimeric virus EcoHIV.

Results: In comparison to uninfected controls, EcoHIV infection increased the ratio of circulating inflammatory monocytes, monocyte recruitment, and CD68 content in the atherosclerotic lesion.

Background: The larynx consists of the supraglottis, glottis, and subglottis and each differ in tissue composition, lymphatic drainage, ability to counter infections, and response to injuries. However, the cellular mechanisms driving laryngeal homoeostasis remain largely unexplored. As a result, understanding disease pathogenesis within the larynx including idiopathic subglottic stenosis (iSGS) and intubation-related traumatic stenosis has been challenging.

Jujube witches' broom (JWB) is a phytoplasma disease that causes severe damage to jujube (Ziziphus jujuba) crops worldwide. Diseased jujube plants show enhanced vegetative growth after floral reversion, including leafy flower structures (phyllody) and the fourth whorl converting into a vegetative shoot. In previous research, secreted JWB protein 3 (SJP3) was identified as an inducer of phyllody.

Background: Multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN) is a rare, chronic immune-mediated polyneuropathy characterized by asymmetric distal limb weakness. An important feature of MMN is the presence of IgM antibodies against gangliosides, in particular GM1 and less often GM2. Antibodies against GM1 bind to motor neurons (MNs) and cause damage through complement activation.
