Application of anesthetic chemicals in aquaculture is important to minimize stress under normal operations such as handling, transport, and artificial breeding. In the past decade, the preference for natural anesthetics over synthetic ones has increased due to welfare issues regarding fish welfare and food safety. This study investigates the anesthetic efficacy of nutmeg oil () in three freshwater fish species- (Common carp), (Danube sturgeon), and (Rainbow trout)-by modeling behavioral (Induction and recovery times) and hematological responses using artificial neural networks (ANNs).

This study aimed to develop an acellular dermal matrix derived from tilapia skin and evaluate its potential as a bioscaffold for skin wound repair. Structural and compositional changes before and after decellularisation were assessed through histological staining, electron microscopy and immunological analysis. The matrix exhibited low immunogenicity, preserved extracellular matrix architecture and retained key bioactive components.

As antimicrobial resistance threatens the future of the aquaculture industry, numerous studies have investigated the use of phages against aquaculture diseases over the past decades. Despite reports of efficient pathogen control, commercial phage solutions are sparse. We discuss limitations of phage therapy and provide suggestions for the progression towards commercially viable solutions.

Pharmaceutical contaminants reaching natural aquatic ecosystems can affect fish behaviour, modifying activity patterns, foraging behaviour and antipredator responses. While laboratory-based studies can offer key insights, assessing the ecological relevance of these findings requires field-based approaches. Therefore, we examined the effects of oxazepam, a widely prescribed anxiolytic drug, on the behaviour of a cyprinid fish (the common roach, ) in the wild, combining slow-release exposure implants with continuous tracking via acoustic telemetry.
